How ridiculous and irresponsible to suggest that Russia threatened nuclear war. No such threat has ever been made. Putin has said many times that Russia will never be the first to attack with nuclear weapons, but will respond in kind (massively) if attacked. The people there were being murdered en mass by the Ukrainian military, and begged Russia for help. Russia has agreed, and admitted those regions into the Federation. Russia will not stop until those regions are liberated, and are succeeding. If the West wants peace, they will have to recognize the will of the people in those territories to be a part of Russia, and stop pushing for NATO expansion into Ukraine.

That's not true. This goes back to 2014, where the CIA, working with Nazi groups in Ukraine, overthrew the Ukrainian President in a coup. Ukraine then started attacks against Ethnic Russians with missiles, rockets etc, killing 20,000 civilians, in order to ethnically cleanse Ukraine. The regions of Eastern Ukraine that are populated by Ethnic Russians, held a vote, and the vast majority voted to join the Russian Federation. Putin turned them down, and instead tried to solve the issue through diplomacy. This was the Minsk Accord. Western leaders stated they had no intention of honoring the deal, and Ukraine broke it. So, in 2022, another vote was held in the breakaway territories, and again they overwhelmingly voted to join the Russian Federation. Again Putin tried to negotiate, with the Istanbul Treaty. Ukraine was prepared to sign, but Boris Johnson, under the demands of the Biden Admin, told Zelensky not to agree. With no agreement, and the West threatening to have Ukraine join NATO and station nukes there, Putin started the SMO and began liberating the territories that voted to join the Russian Federation.
