This pilot has never aired on television, but the full episode was uploaded back in 2016 after Cipher Hunt, as a prize for the completion of the puzzle.
I saw this pilot on the original website and it was originally low quality when it was uploaded. The popular upload of it on KZfaq is even lower quality, somehow.
I had nothing better to do today so I decided to upscale it to 1080p for anyone who wanted it. I think it turned out pretty decent!

For everyone commenting on the differences, Alex Hirsch revealed in a podcast that Disney had him throw something together and he did this in adobe flash in like a week thinking they weren’t serious. He thought the character of stan would surely put them off

Honestly, if they changed Stan's design to the final one, I think I would've liked this style even more. Mabel and Dipper are adorable, and also feel more their age.

I don't like how bright they are in my opinion. Like at the part where dipper holds the book the hands look too bright, and the books dark/dark gray.

Hmmm… Nah. To me, Dipper looks more like the „cool“ type of guy here, especially the way he‘s standing with his hands in his pockets. It doesn’t match his personality at all (plus I absolutely don’t like the way we see his teeth all the time when he’s talking if yk what I mean) Stan looks much better in the original gravity falls version and the animation isn’t that smooth either. Mabel here is cute tho, but not cuter than her original version. As for the style, idk, both are interesting to me

This pilot actually sums up Dipper and Mabel's relationship so well. Dipper is the more "reasonable" one, but Mabel is still smart in her own weird social way. That's why she knows ghosts like Boo-berry more than Cookies n' Scream and that's why Dipper knew Norman was not normal.

You can see Alex's influence from working on Fish Hooks, Justin Roiland was already set to play a character, and it's awesome to see that WAY before even the concept probably of Bill Cipher, there was the motif of the villain turning into stone. So glad that they used that again in the finale. What a lovely cherry on top.

Pilot is fun to watch, but I’m glad they changed things up without scraping all of the ideas they had. I like the current series’s darker vibe and that they added Cipher and all. Even Dipper’s hat has more meaning now cuz well he got it as a gift from the shop from Stan. (And im so glad they upgraded Stans appearance.) I wouldn’t have watched the series in this style, but its fun to see raw ideas before the final product.

No, but seriously. He says "hoo hoo" in Gravity Falls. He says again as Hooty but as "hoot hoot". And other characters on the Boiling Isles repeat it. The owl in Gravity Falls is a clock. Lilith carries Hooty in a little house but also is reminiscent as an antique clock.

This show was so unbelievably good. Even this pilot, which is very rough around the edges manages to pull through and be something great. A literal demo for a show was better than the final result of some other shows. I love this series so much, and it’s really sad that it ended.

Always liked Dipper's design in this one, it kinda feels like it's an older version of the one the show actually went with. Now he looks more confident and adventurous, like maybe he learned to be more bold after the first summer at the falls.

Honestly, the only thing I would change about the style is stans design. The design the show had was perfect. Other than that, I think I would have enjoyed it just the same if they kept this look going.

Damn, this looks so different from the original. I really like how the first episode turned out so I’m glad they changed it, but it’s still really interesting to see what it looked like beforehand, it feels like I’m watching a different version of the show.

This is so nice to see!! You can clearly tell the idea they were going with originally. I love how the mystery shack looked in the pilot! There’s so many different weird antiques and decor that would definitely catch your eye if you were Dipper and Mabel’s age. And dippers book is so funny! I’m curious as to how they would’ve implemented that book if they went with this idea!

Man Mabel and Dipper’s pilot designs are so appealing. The colors are so warm and soft and they’re so expressive. The show style is just as good if not better but I loooove how some parts of this look.

The fact that if that episode aired, the story would be much MUCH different. Like the journal story is different the gnomes couldn't help in the Gideon's episode and let me be honest I don't like the animation that much and I am happy it changed. If the animation was like that it wouldn't be my 1# show.😂
