“Oh, we forgot one: Harold Ramis for ‘Caddyshack,’ ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Groundhog Day.'” Best Moment of the Night for me, and it didn't involved singing, dancing or criticism of the society of today. It was only 5 seconds, and it was so simple yet it touched me more than any of the speeches made that night; it was a dedication to a friend. Murray, you are amazing, and Harold.... As much as Tree of Life had breathtaking cinematography, I think Hugo and how Richardson not only captured beautiful imagery but also moved well with the camera without losing focus (unlike in most action films nowadays) gave it the upper edge. Both films are beautiful though.
@Jonmad1710 жыл бұрын
BlueFox94 The Tree of Life's photography was part and parcel of its narrative. It's not only one of the mot beautiful films ever shot, its entire point is the composition of its images. Hugo looks good, The Tree of Life is a fucking Titian painting. How can you even compare the two?
@Wired4Life210 жыл бұрын
Jonmad17 Because Hugo's camera movement and 3D compares just as well to Tree of Life's gorgeous composition. I'm not going to say one was better than the other. Both were 2011's cinematography standouts for me. In terms of just the Academy Awards, Hugo's victory had the advantage of being Scorsese, the film with the most nominations, and the more innovative with its masterful use of 3D. At least Chivo has his Oscar now for Gravity.

His techniques and styles are challenging in the way he moves his camera and build up his shots with the right lighting and spacing. Is hard to put his work in one basket, because the diversity in his shots from film to another. He has the ability to keep his spirit onto his shots the same time his technical aspect in his shots matches psychologically and philosophically with the filmmaker's vision. "This happens, that two amazing directors, two amazing artists in two completely different ways try to express something similar”Lubezki says.

With Gravity also winning Best Visual Effects, this marked the 5th year in a row where Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects both went to the same movie. First Avatar, then Inception, then Hugo, then Life of Pi, then Gravity. Since this, it's happened twice. In 2018 with Blade Runner 2049 and then two years later with 1917, and both times, Cinematography went to Roger Deakins.
