This is SO COOL. I've been exploring lots of different solo RPG strategies but I think the visual aspect of MTG cards is going to take my gaming to the next level. Also it's cool how you can seed your deck in lots of different ways to control the thematic elements of your story.

Superb. This is where human imaginative creativity can really explode--in the deliberate interactive back-and-forth between man's mind and objects of his attention. It's not the Magic cards doing the work (though they are a particularly apt object), but the act of receiving them with creative intent. There are maps in the grass, enemies in the clouds, random values in a handful of stones or drawing short straws... What makes activities like this so profound is that they highlight the single most defining characteristic of man: advanced imagination.

I could not agree with you more! It sounds to me like you have some experience with philosophy. Am I correct here? 😉👍 Your reflections remind me of the German and French phenomenologists who write a good deal about “the given” and it’s importance in what it means to exist in the world. Superb! 💪👊😊

I really enjoyed your video. It's very cool that you devised a way to play a game without needing anything other than magic cards. No dice, RPG materials or anything else is needed. Though it might be helpful to record the events that happen, so that if you want to play a longer campaign instead of a one shot, you can go back to your notes at a later date. Have you considered developing a system for improving characters? Perhaps you could draw a random number of cards to determine how may XP you receive at the end of a session? Perhaps you could develop some kind of chart that grants other abilities or qualities so that there is some measurable change or improvement over a number of sessions where a character achieves a certain number of successes during each game? Regardless, I think you are really onto something here.

What a fantastic use for surplus cards. I thought about making a Tarot deck out of MtG cards decades ago inspired by The Wheel of Fortune card but never really thought of them as a story prompt or oracle for use in RPGs. I'm thinking of adding a Skill hand. A number of selected cards based on Character level that you set aside during set up that can be played once per story beat to give the player a bit more agency instead of using redraws. That card would then be discarded but earned back after a full rest. There's also a way to tie in keywords like Creature, Sorcery, Enchantment and even the color of the card. Maybe like you can only play a Skill if you have the matching keyword or color of any card drawn?

do "campaign rules" for MTG. Friends and I once tried it. You pick a color and a race (white/humans) for example. You can only pick basic lands and common cards that depict that race. Creatures that are killed in battle are killed for good. All races have different rules on how they replenish monsters. You get new cards by fighting over resources on an overworld map.

@GrayArmyGaming

That is a fantastic question! I am not super familiar with the sci-fi CCG genre, so I am not really sure. Maybe Star Trek CCG? It would be really fun to roleplay a different genre with the same rules (a few mechanics might need to be tweaked, however). For another cool genre maybe we could try the old 1990s card game Vampire: The Eternal Struggle. Great ideas!

Interesting. I was looking for a system which I could create a full campaign with my friends a narrative where me and my friends play as planeswalkers characters adventuring through the multiverse. But I'm having a lot of trouble in adapting a existing system of rpg into what I want (exploring different worlds, living adventures all across the multiverse and playing as a very strong caster such as a planeswalker is). I know it's an epic version of a "D&D" campaign, but I really want to make it happen. The hardest part of it is I'm a storyteller of WoD (specialized in Vampire the Masquerade) and i despize D&D xD (too limited to my taste). Any suggestions? I'm kinda desperate for help, being honest. Didn't find anything helpful in the internet. Your video is the closest thing that I could find. And sorry for my bad english, not my primary language as you can probably notice. Anyway, thanks for this video.
