The first filter I bought was a Sawyer Squeeze. It only a few uses to realize it wasn't the best system. It was too inefficient. I was explaining my frustrations to the owner of the local outfitter I frequent when he introduced me to the original Grayl. I was sold immediately. I bought one and haven't looked back. So much easier than the Sawyer, plus it purifies and holds water.

This is awesome! So glad I did my research this time. I've been using a Seychelles for a few years but the filter doesn't allow for the consumption of all the water in the bottle. It also tends to leak and is a little bit of an awkward shape and the taste coming from it always felt funky.

Thank you for showing/explaining the differences between the 1st & 2nd generation Grayl Purifiers. I almost bought the 1st generation because I liked the smaller size. I didn't see/realize the possible/probable cross-contamination with the 1st generation until you demo'd it. The 2nd generation, larger 24 oz is going to be the one I buy. No straws, no pumps, no batteries; this truly is cutting edge technology; a Water Purifier that is the CADILLAC/the standard by which all other Water Purifiers/Filters will be measured against. I expect other manufacturers will come up with similar products because it removes everything that can be removed from dirty water. I also expect Grayl will, at some point, come out with a 3rd generation that has a Ceramic Filter that will filter more water B4 needing to be replaced & one that can be backflushed. I also expect the price will come down when other mfgs come out with similar competitive products.

Thank you for such an in-depth easy to understand instructions on the Grayl Water Purification Bottle I am completely sold on how well this system works.and I give you 10 thumbs up..so I have decided to purchase one for my own personal use I am from East Los Angeles born and breed the water quality where I now reside is not what I am accustomed to however that's what made up my mind I need and want safe drinking water at my finger tips I'm tired of going all over town just to find out the water has been sold out again and not to mention the tap water is not too pleasant it's not fit for man or beast. I kinda have a difficult time getting around not too long ago I was on my motorcycle coming from a visiting a friend when I was struck by a big rig on the freeway dragged over a half a mile and left to die..I was in a wheelchair the Dr said I had to get used to it because I would never walk again. After many catastrophic events in my life like I lost my dearest beautiful mother on 3-31-14,lost my dad four months later 7-1-14, and lost my eldest brother on 7-2-14 , then lost 5 cousins and a niece was fired from my job after over 30 years of service and I became homeless...but thanks be to GOD the creator of heaven and earth I am walking again I am no longer homeless but I love pure drinking water and for me this is the best way. Again thank you very much. I am very grateful that you took the time and effort to put this video together. Sincerely, Michael

This might seem like a dumb question, but is there any way to tell when your filter needs replacing, or do you just have to keep track of it as you use it? I’m thinking of getting a few of these bottles for future family trips, but I don’t want my inexperienced knowledge of the filter to end up getting my family sick.

The only problem with the Grayl is that you should not filter water which contains tannins. Tannins will bind to the receptors in the filter, and leave them unavailable fo r filtering enteric pathogens, meaning you could get sick. That's what Grayl told me. Check with them before using the filter if you want to be absolutely sure. I live in Florida in which just about all the waters contain tannins. Also, tannins are found around the world. I would not use it to filter water from Florida's Blackwater River, or Fisheating Creek, only two examples of many Florida waters containing tannin, because these tea colored waters obviously contain a high level of tannins. Still, other waters in Florida don't contain as much tannins but does that mean they are safe to filter? Who the heck knows? Unless it's coming from a spring or a clearwater mountain lake, I'm not sure I can trust the Grayl to actually work.

I recently purchased the grayl geo press and was really let down to see that with the zero water tester tested tap water tested exactly the same straight from the tap as it did after putting it through the geopress... Then with the ionizer test where you put 2 electrodes in the water it didn't do any better than the tap water... The zero water filter by contrast did very well. I searched the KZfaq for similar test and apparently no one is doing this.

It will gradually take longer and be more difficult to press. You will be able to tell when its on its last legs as it will be really hard to press. The cleaner the water(tap water) you press the longer it will last, so if you were to filter murky water every time it won't last 250 liters.

I like your channel. I have used their grayl ultralight for a few years now. I love their products and their company as a whole. The only issue with the new Geopress is the horizontal two finger ring. It is too small for myself to use for anything but a carabiner ring and yet it is always protruding. I have contacted Grayl and asked if they will offer another lid, but they stated they do not plan to. This is the reason I am not purchasing one on Kickstarter. Lastly, why are you reviewing a product that doesn't hit the market, publicly, for another four plus months?

An active carbon filter does not filter most heavy metals, you'd need an osmosis machine for that. But its better than a hollow fiber filter (sawyer squeeze)

This Grail is shit. If you do brown water you only get 5-6 liters per filter. And you need to put all your body weight on it when it started to clog. And it squirts, straight up in the face. The filter is design uses two types of filter, active carbon and nano tubes. Why? It is only useful for clear water, how often does that happen?

As long as you prefilter water with sediment in it you should have no issues. I have yet to change a filter.
