50mm 1.8 AIS pancake (the metal Japanese version, serial number 2******) is my favourite manual Nikkor. I use it more than the 50mm 1.2 AIS. It's a miracle lens. Everyone should own one.

Great video as usual, love the chemistry between Becky and Con. I’ve always Liked the 50mm focal length. In fact I have a 50 1.4 Afd, 501.8 Afd, 501.8 Series E (silver ring) , 35 1.8DX, 40 2.8 DX. They all have their own unique characteristics. I wouldn’t mind getting the 50mm 1.8 Z in the future. Thanks 🙏 for the informative video! ✌🏼❤️📸😄

Fun tidbit about the Helios-44 and soft focus filters. You can very easily unscrew the front cosmetic ring, flip the front lens around, and fix the ring back in place. With this one easily reversible trick, you too can achieve crappy effects without the need for vaseline and nylon socks!

Pleased with Becky's lens choices (at around 23m10s - 50mm 1.8 on her D200 -> 35mm on the D300). I started with a 50mm AFD when I got an FM2a because it was affordable and, from memory, focused closer than the manual version. Went with a 35mm 2.0 when I got a D300. Still using the D300, since February 2009 - an excellent camera :-)

I’m playing catch up again. My 50mm collection is smaller than others’ but here goes. 50/1.8d - love it, its small size makes it a favourite for when I’m just out walking with the camera. Series E 50/1.8 (metal version came with my F301) very good on my D70s - haven’t tried it on a full frame body (yet) 50/1.4AI-S - a bit disappointed with this - I bought it second hand, and I guess it had been sat on a shelf for a long time so the aperture diaphragm is sticky leading to a lot of over exposed shots.... as an aside, as you mentioned the single lens challenge, I did mine in Feb as I’m continually running late - uploading my favourites to the drive folder. Thanks to all involved with the livestream.👍

My collection includes the 50 mm f 2.0 AI and 50 mm f 1.8D . If needed, I've got a 58 mm f 1.4 Minolta MC Rokkor lens. all work well.

The Helios 44 is actually a 58mm lens. I have two different models on my shelf, but they aren't getting much use in a winter lockdown!

Favorite : 50mm Meyer Optik Oreston F1.8 . Others I use : Zuiko 50mm F1.4 , Nikkor 50mm F1.2 ai , 7 Artisans 50mm F1.1 & Meyer Optik Trioplan 50mm F2.9.

Strange that the 45 mm 2.8 P lens was made for the FM3a which did not use the electrical contacts. I have one which I mainly use on a Df. I also have the old 45 mm GN lens for which I managed to find both the AI conversion ring, and the strange lens hood. I like the 45 mm length.

Got the first version 50 1.8 AF w/o D from hmm 1986 for the darkest club gigs where my 70-200 f2.8 just isn't enough. Think I need to get my hands on the 135 f2 DC AF to get closer in the dark

I still have my pancake Nikkor 50mmf1.8 Ai-S lens from the mid 1980s. It works great and is super small.

Love my 1.8 50mm AF-d, would love to Ai my pre-Ai 2.0 H-C Auto 50mm (but can't locate a conversion kit...) for use on my D7200.

I use the auto nikkor H 50mm f2 that I converted to use on my D700. Absolutely fantastic rendering.. I see why it's referred to as the japanese summicron

Too bad, missed the live stream. I have the 50mm 1.4G and the Planar 1,4/50 for my Df (mainly) and D800. Is it worth trying to get the 50mm 1.2 AI-S or the Nokton 58mm 1.4 SL II-S?

I have a 50mm f/1.8 it looks like the D version (all black, no silver ring), but does not say D anywhere on the lens, also it focuses to .45 meters. Which lens is it?

I love the rendering of the auto nikkor 50mm f2 on my D700. There is a reason it's called the Japanese summicron Edit: it's the single coated version, which I actually prefer on this one

Until G. Decades. I have G, D, AIs, E, pre-Ai. Everyone else was 52mm. In fact. So many AIS lenses are 52mm. I really like them.

I went from Nikon to Sony and then to Olympus. I am happy there but I am hesitant to invest in the Z mount cameras because I feel the Nikon mount flashes I have will not work with the Z cameras. I have to ask "Get a Lumix S5 with Leica lenses or a Nikon Z?". Could you confirm that the flash interface does not require me to toss my flashes, or not?

I had the Sigma 1.4 Art which I considered very very good (I also have the 35 mm 1.4). But when I got the Nikon Z 1.8, I decided to dump the Sigma

Since Nikon is no longer making ais, d or g lenses, I'll probably getting 50mm 1.8 G and some used lenses for my D750. I'm never getting a mirrorless camera and lenses. Only a fool would consider doing business with them, after they throwing their customers under the bus.

They are still making the G lenses. I hardly think they have thrown anyone under the bus. I'm not sure what you are referring to in this context.

Nikon is expensive yes but to me the quality is obviously superior to other brands. I invested in some nano 1.4G primes since 2012 and still extremely happy with them. No plan to switch.
