I'm so disappointed with how they handled Ghoulia. I'm autistic, and I've seen a lot of autistics that identified with her, not least because was nonverbal in the original series. Considering Monster High is meant to celebrate differences, I think it's a shame they erased that part of her for all the young autistics that could've found comfort in (even just implied) representation. It's amazing that they made Frankie non-binary, but that just opens the gate for more representation - disabilities, sexualities, etc that they didn't explore. It's a shame imo.

Tbh I was kinda impressed by this film considering it was a Nickelodeon film. Monster high is one of those franchises that I think is just insanely hard to bring into live action. It’s always been super campy and cartoony so it’s quite awkward to translate into irl.

While I love that clawdeen is mixed bc it’s nice to be represented I do think they handled it very poorly it is not realistic at all instead of her trying to hide being mixed (which most mixed people can’t do) I think it would be better if she tried to hide her insecurities about being mixed and hiding it with her fashion and stuff

I think Frankie bring non-binary made sense. They’re a mixture of other people’s body parts, so they in a quite literal sense a conglomerate of people. They are multiple selves in one person

the deuce and clawdeen thing they had going on was so unnecessary??? 😭 apparently in the movie cleo and deuce broke up, but I really can't see him being with someone else besides cleo 🤕

My biggest bone to pick with the movie is how they just kinda selected Frankie to be the “representation character” instead of giving everyone different kinds of representation, which would make it feel more natural and well rounded rather than having a bunch of “normal” basic characters and then the one who introduces themself with pronouns, who is “quirky”, and the “odd one out” from everyone else. Like you said, Clawdeen should’ve been gay, and another comment said Goulia should’ve had better neurodivergent rep (which I totally agree with as someone with autism) and I feel like if everyone had some kind of difference to them it would make it all seem much more open and accepting than just “that one character with all the stuff” if that makes sense

no bc why did they genuinely make frankie so likeable. i'm kind of a frankie anti too but they were just super funny in this movie?? they were basically comedic relief (from what i saw) but it made them a more enjoyable character imo

The thing to keep in mind about this is that it's NOT a revival, it's a reboot. A revival implies that it's bringing back the old MH which is never what was planned, we've known since 2019 that they were fully rebooting the brand into a new generation and that it was gonna be a brand new story. When you keep that in mind the new generation is actually really great!!

My boyfriend auditioned for the part of Dracula in this movie and I’m honestly shocked at how fast it came out because the audition was just a few months ago.

the movie is dissapointing cus the new dolls are so cute but they just failed on the plot completely, it felt like they copied harry potter and the chamber of secrets 😭 was that just me? i’m not sure if they cut it out because i only watched the unfinished movie when it leaked, but when clawdeen was talking to the principle, they had the harry potter music in the background

I def think it’s camp. It’s very worth noting though, that this movie is based off the NEW generation of monster high. I would recommend watching the two episodes from the new animated series that are already out there. Basically, they created new lore for monster high. There are so many differences when you compare this movie to the first generation of monster high, so I get this movie being jarring but remember it’s based off the new lore.

Honestly though Frankie was my favorite because they were literally so cute and likeable throughout the movie. I was skeptical about how Frankie would be personality wise but they're solid. Both funny and cute, my fav from g3, thinking about getting their doll too.

the reason for the switch from sunglasses to glasses is probably because you lose a lot of an actors face/expressions when wearing sunglasses. in the cartoon it was easier because the snakes could make up for it, etc..

I had 24 monster high dolls, but after they stopped producing any episodes/movies and took the dolls off of the shelf I donated them. It was basically dead like you said so I sort of out grew it and moved onto other shows. I kind of regret giving away my dolls now but I’m happy some other person can enjoy them now. Also this movie made me physically cringe, and what they did to Lagoona is a crime 💀

if you’ve ever watched Saiki k the whole glasses thing is pretty similar. Basically the lenses make it where the eye is blocked from actually making eye contact with the person and even though they can technically make eye contact it doesn’t actually “go though”. Like an example could be if you were in a house and someone was outside and you guys both put your hands up to a window they wouldn’t actually meet or touch.

Okay, I finally have a place to put my feelings down lol. I honestly really like Frankie in this one, even though I had my reservations. I like that they were booksmart but didn’t understand social cues at all. It was so sweet and I loved how they just owned it, even though they were self-conscious about it at one point. I’m sad that Ghoulia is no longer the smartest in school and now speaks, I thought the zombie defying expectations of being stupid was really awesome. Plus it was cool to have Ghoulia’s friends all just understand her. The one thing I like is that the zombies sleep in a cemetery. I wish Frankie and her could both be smart and could bond over that or something. They did Lagoona dirty though 😭 She’s just a side friend to Cleo which just doesn’t work. I liked that Lagoona was everybody’s friend and was a complete animal lover and ocean conservationist, but was so sporty and cool while doing it. She had like two speaking lines in the movie and was just thrown to the side after that. And I’m sorry, I just don’t vibe with the pink redesign. She’s giving off Jojo Siwa as a mermaid vibes. I didn’t like Draculaura being sassy and too good for everybody. I miss her sweet, naive demeanor. Her flaw being that she was easily walked over and being super sensitive, but she always had Clawdeen to call people out and defend her (like a loyal dog type person would do 🥹). I miss her adorable accent too, but I can understand why they may have left that out. Maybe it was insensitive or the actress couldn’t do it? Idk. Still miss it though. Clawdeen, oh sweet Clawdeen. I don’t understand why they made her the main character here. Like, she was always so confident and literally fierce. She was snarky and sarcastic, but also sweet in her own way. Stood up for her friends, and I liked that her flaw was that she unintentionally hurt people because she usually always admitted fault and apologized too. Oh and Deuce. I really liked that in the original he was your typical alt-cool guy popular type, but he didn’t play into the whole d-bag stereotype of popular guys. He called out Heath when he was being a creep and didn’t stand for bullies. He was the cool guy we all needed growing up. Almost like a big brother type of character. I miss Clawde and Howleen. I have a ton of siblings and I loved their rivalry because it really resonated with me and how I was with my brothers and sisters. I get that it’s a reboot and meant for a new generation, but they could have really drawn in the nostalgic crowd if they had just stuck with the source material a liiiiittle closer. Okay, rant over. I never really watched any of the shows/movies as a tween, but I LOVED the dolls. I watched this with my sister (who did grow up watching MH stuff), and we were both kinda surprised it wasn't as bad as we thought! She said there were a lot of reboot changes though. Frankie's character is I think what really saved it for me, every one of their jokes landed for me and I'm lowkey embarrassed about it lmao. I do wish they followed the common headcannon of Clawdeen being lesbian though, I know the creator said they liked the idea though it wasn't intended.

this movie is a lot better when you watch it with the mindset that it's a completely separate timeline . it being a different timeline justifies a lot of the changes such as monster high originally not excepting half humans , ghoulia speaking english rather than zombie , the whole jekyll/hyde thing , but some things could've been handled better . with the other content from this reboot , i'm mostly concerned about them making lagoona a stereotype . great that she's latina , i love that since we didn't have much from g1 , but the songs they put out don't bode well for her . i guess we'll have to see where it goes ( it looks great for frankie tho big improvement ) .

My only gripe with Frankie introducing themselves was the way they did it. It sounds more like they're writing an email than talking to someone lmao. They just had to say "My pronouns are they/them". I think people forget that yes monster high is for children absolutely but there was 4 books released from 2010-2012 that where considered YA ( young adult ) those books at the time could be found in the YA section of public libraries and book stores, so the reviews and ratings on IMDb might be from people my age (21) who grew up with these books and dolls expecting a movie that catered to them , now can anyone expect a “ euphoria “ type monster high like you said absolutely note

I'm assuming since Clawdeen is half werewolf, they tried to make her side of the room a foresty theme since werewolves and wolves are typically found in forests. But it does seem to fit Venus way more than it does Clawdeen

i was really upset that they changed so many details at first (like draculuras hair and accent, frankies color and neck bolts {which they actually didnt have the rights to use] or the fact that clawdeen is half werewolf), but the creators have come out and said that they arent forgetting about the original ghouls, this new generation just takes place in an alternative universe. One where Clawdeen is biracial, where frankie is blue and nonbinary, and where Lagoona is no longer australian, but Columbian. Why? because exactly what you mentioned "this new generation of kids didnt grow up with monster high" The creators of the franchise has said that children today have had so much of their childhood robbed from them due to Covid, they want to give those kids their own ghouls to connect to, ones that might identify the same as them, or who may also be bi-racial, and feel like they are split between worlds at times. As someone who no longer has any of my dolls, but was really connected to them (i had around 33, and my grandmother gave them away when i was 13, im still heartbroken), im happy they are doing this...they arent gonna erase our ghouls (at least they say, and im wanting to trust that), and they are trying to give the kids of today, something they can really connect to, like we did (still mad they took out the gothic, edgy themes though, thats what drew me to them in the first place)

Frankie was EASILYYYYY the best part of the movie, my bf and I ADORED them

The main critique that I have on the movie is that they didn’t actually get a black person for clawdeen. And they tried to have forced representation. They changed race rep for lgbtq rep. I don’t really care that it’s supposed to be a reboot and not exactly like the movies and shows, she’s supposed to be black. Darkskin black, the most they could get was a lightskin girl. And besides that she isn’t even a lesbian. I could go in def on how much I dislike the movie.
