It is also thought he might be the son of Asmodeus, possibly with Pale Night. There is also a conspiracy theory amongst demonkind that he not only used to work for Asmodeus, but that he still does and is basically under super-deep cover.

It's possible, considering how Graz'zt is the only demon prince who seems to have a greater interest in conquering the Upper Planes immediately rather than going after the devils first. More importantly, he's also the _only_ demon to have ever actually moved forward with a plan to make the hordes of the Abyss actually put aside their differences and fight with some sort of cohesion. That happened in the 3E adventure _Expedition to the Demonweb Pits_ - he planned to gather aspects/ambassadors of the most important demon lords/princes - Demogorgon, Orcus, Yeenoghu, Baphomet, Pale Night, Obox-Ob, Pazuzu and Kostchtchie, and hold a ceremony where an aspect of Lolth would read out a special pact in Dark Speech, which would _magically bind_ the demon lords into working together, with Graz'zt himself as the head. Thankfully, Orcus wanted no part of this, and used a party of adventurers to sabotage the meeting.

Well, logically speaking this theories that Graz'zt was a general of Baator, that he was a son of Asmodeus with Pale Night and that he is under super-deep cover can co-exist and be, in fact, parts of puzzle. As assault of eladrin on Abyss once showed, [any] chaotic beings are efficient in Abyss more than lawful creatures and being such as child of Asmodeus and Pale Night would be both strong and have at least somewhat chaotic nature. Chaotic nature [and] potentially intelligence, since neither Asmodeus, nore Pale Night are mindless brutes. Asmodeus would be most interested in having a proxy in Abyss that will balance Demogorgon, while acting free to fulfill any ambitions that will be limited in harsh structure of Nine Hells.

In my home game Graz'zt is the offspring of Asmodeus and Pale Night, heir of evil and prophesized future king of demons and devils alike in a unified lower planes. He's fairly chill in my game too, being the lord of debauchery and all that, but so long as everybody is having a good hedonistic time. He still performs his role as a lord of the damned by punishing those who were evil in life, but his real hobby is corrupting the chaste with temptation and lust and having them turn away from the gods and instead worship him. So if he ever did unified the abyss and the nine hells and the other lower planes, the real threat wouldn't be an invasion of fiends that overwhelms the multiverse, but rather him corrupting mortals to turning away from the gods and turning away from virtues to instead join him in his hedonistic revelry

Grazzt is also the sexy Chad of the demons. I like him because he seems less about slice and dice and deeds of ickiness than manipulating you into doing something he wants, or into doing something that he might just find entertaining. All the times I see him presented in drawings he seems to have that half smile to him like he is going to really enjoy messing with your brain.

Graz'zt feels like a classic demon. I don't see many striking bargains with Demogorgon, but Graz'zt? Definitely. He and Zariel seem pretty similar, both having "fallen". BTW, I am loving the vest.

Grazzt has some of my favorite madnesses. Most madnesses are all hostile but one of his is just you believe all problems can be solved with lust and why can’t any one else understand that

Interesting myth about the Pale One that I read is that she mated with a darker power to sire her children the tanar'ri demons. Graz'zt whether first a devil and then a demon or born as a demon is one of the tanar'ri. One theory I've seen floating around is that she may have mated with more than one dark power, and one of them supposedly may have been Asmodeus. So it is possible Graz'zt could be both a devil created by Asmodeus and a demon child of the Pale One. Would be really cool to think of him as a child of both devil and demon lineage.

In the Out Of The Abyss I had this great idea for Graz'zt. (Since he really had nothing to do with the first part.) I looked over his capabilities realizing his shape changing ability and deception skill. In the game he took on the form of a human merchant/bard who gets ambushed by enemies. The pcs save him and he joins him as an NPC (However keeps his identity and true power secret.). As he travels with them he learns of the under dark and the pcs. Whom are a fighter, barbarian and rouge. The players never knew until the end. Other than that Graz'zt is good for a game with lots of deception and odd humor. One of my favorites.

I've always felt that Graz'zt should have wings. For some reason, I see him as the father of the cubi (succubi and incubi) and, as such, should resemble them more.

He's actually an enemy of Malcanthet, Demon Queen of the Succubi, which started when one of them rejected the other as a lover and just escalated from there.

For my own lore, I took the devil idea and made it even more. For me, Graz'zt is the firstborn of Asmodeus, before even Glasya. So, the prince of devils became one of the top three demon lords.

Graz’zt is my favorite demon lord in the 5e lore. With his intelligence and mobility, he’s a tough opponent in both intrigues and combat. So much fun for the DM. He was the last demon lord standing in the OotA campaign I DM’ed, and if the party did not think ahead with a magic circle prepared and had not been gifted with certain talismans, they would have been toast!

Had to recover a soul of a party member from him. Said member drew from the Deck of Many Things and it became a side quest to reclaim her soul.

My party hasn't fought him but our Sorcerer who was being hounded by Orcus (backstory stuff) made a deal with Graz'zt so Orcus couldn't sense her and took a level in Warlock to gain this.

I have been running a campaign for over 2 years now, and one of the main story arcs brings in Graz'zt and Thraxxia, she has been found to be a players sister.

We traveled through his city on Styx while escaping hell. One of the barge travelers had to deliver some things and didn’t tell us where, so we went with. (DM hook because he wanted to bring Grazzt in and he knows we follow carrots.) My character ended up charming him simply because she didn’t fall for his charm, which was crazy unlikely because she was a not very charismatic Druid. It was a fun twist

I love him! I'm gonna make him one of the original Wizards that made a deal with Asmodeus for Immortality. Of course not knowing Asmodeus's trickery he was only immune to dying if old age. When he ended up in the Nine Hells he was already as physically strong as a Balor but with the Spell List of an Ancient Wizard. He confronted Asmodeus, but after a very calm and polite conversation he suddenly was a Lord of Hell and now rules as an Archfiend Bishop.

One of my players in Out of the Abyss is has Graz'zt as their Warlock patron. He's a bad influence, slowly trying to corrupt the poor soul. It's a fun dynamic to play.

I always saw it as Graz'zt was just a powerful Duke or maybe Ice Devil( I just don't see Graz'zt being a pit fiend, he's such a pretty boy I bet he went ice devil - duke) that when corrupted by the abyss, got "promoted" to demon lord and reversed sides. He was essentially at Balor levels of power so it makes promotional sense for Graz'zt to choose autonomy over servitude to Ahriman (Asmodeus).

In my ravenloft campaign the gentleman caller is the grandson of grazzt. So he'll be around in spirit if not flesh.

My Tabaxi Rouge ended Grazzit's hold on the material with one firm blade to the spine, very recently. He was a tough fight forcing most of the party to kneel before him, preventing an action against the Prince.

Graz'zt also appeared in one of the levels of Castle Greyhawk, where the players might get to fight him! There is also a print of a scroll of summoning him, the original scroll was burned into a skin!

Never fought Graz’zt but met him on occasion in an old campaign I played in back in the 1980’s. We were playing as characters from Gord the Rogue! I was Chert with Brool. Trying to kind of stay to the plot but more just becoming superheroes lol.

Some useful stuff here, i have an idea for a fire genasi ranger, bounty hunter, who was born to a female Efreet noble, who sells/trades him to graz, who lies and tells him he's his own son and gets him the training he needs to be used as a collector of souls for graz, hunting down warlocks that have sold their souls to him and haven't been keeping up their end of the deals. Figured it would give a dm easy hooks to use "hey, you get a contract to hunt down this guy, go get 'em" Or it's just nice fluff for a fire genasi ranger lol

This pronunciation of Graz'zt reminds me of the part in R.A. Salvatore's novel 'Sojourn' where a young boy mispronounces "Drizzt" as "the Drizzit."

I remember a conversation with him in Out of the Abyss in our run through of the campaign. He can be charming and deceptive, but responded negatively when reminded of his betrayal to his former Baatezu. Being simply called Tanar'ri and not his name was likely a reason. But hey, when you're mother is an Erinyes, you take a hard line view of this sort of thing. ;)

Can we get a Glasya video? Her lore does get a little convoluted with who betrayed who and lied about what. But she's badass as fuck. Taking out archdevils and lords of planes of hell as she increases her power/domain.

Another famous offspring of Graz'zt is Rule-of-Three, a cambion who disguises himself as a Githzerai sage. Rule-of-Three usually hangs out in the Styx Oarsman tavern in the Lower Ward of Sigil. There he does Graz'zt's bidding, usually by manipulating adventurers.

Nope. Grazzt might like to subjugate Drizzt though, or maybe help him out if it could annoy Lolth. Although I think a battle of wits between Grazzt and Jarlaxle would be more entertaining. (Jarlaxle being one of Drizzt's oft time rivals/frenemies/nemesis).

Much like all planar lore in 4e, I always felt that the "duhr he used to be a devil and that's the truth" backstory was idiotic. Graz'zt is much more fun when he's mysterious, and having rumor and conflicting stories as to his parentage, not to mention the link to Pale Night, the most mysterious of the Obaryths. Was daddy a baernaloth? Asmodeus, possibly even before his fall? An evil god with influence in a vast number of spheres (Set and Loki are mentioned in one sourcebook)? The abyss itself? Tharizdun? I've also always liked to envision Graz'zt as happily propagating these contradictory rumors about himself, as mystery completely fits the "dark handsome and sinister" persona he so enjoys, aka "sexy edgelord of the Abyss". Also @Jorphdan, you did miss one very fun bit of lore: Graz'zt's rumored connection to the Vashar (from the Book of Vile Darkness) , the evil human subrace that wants to kill all the gods.
