The Stooges act really was genius. Everything is tight and concise. By saying “Leave him alone” it gives Moe the excuse to start beating the other guy. So then he’s going back and forth between the two. Without that line , there’s no reason for him to attack the other guy. But with that simple line , which totally makes sense, he’s sticking up for his friend… it spreads the chaos in two directions , and keeps the laughs coming. It so smart. That’s why they did it.
