Explore the spectacular cosmic phenomenon of a total solar eclipse.
Official Website: to.pbs.org/3TTbgR4 | #novapbs
Explore the spectacular cosmic phenomenon of a total solar eclipse. In April 2024, the Moon’s shadow is sweeping from Texas to Maine, as the U.S. witnesses its last total solar eclipse until 2044. This extraordinary astronomical event is plunging locations in the path of totality into darkness for more than four minutes - nearly twice as long as the last American eclipse in 2017. Learn how to watch an eclipse safely and follow scientists as they work to unlock secrets of our Sun - from why its atmosphere is hundreds of times hotter than its surface, to what causes solar storms and how we might one day predict them.

Everyone I talked to afterward pretty much begged me to go see the total eclipse in April if I liked what I'd just seen. They were really great at convincing a little college kid like me! I remember my son (9 at the time) describing the one in 2017 when it was happening as “like putting on a pair of dark pair of sunglasses when it’s really sunny … the light isn’t like when the sun sets or rises” - we didn’t have totality, but the same amount as you around 95-97% coverage, which was enough to see the outdoor thermometer drop a couple of degrees. It was like a slightly desaturated filter that was applied in real life. He’s so excited that he gets to see it happen again so soon.

Where I live, there won't be a Total Solar Eclipse until September 14, 2099. Nope, I won't get to see it. I can't wait until tomorrow for the almost Total Eclipse. How can anybody question the existence of Creation after so many extraordinarily unique and spectacular circumstances, that of which IS life? @@gives_bad_advice dude you're not following me. Let me guide you down my path. Come on, let's go. The size of each the Sun and Moon, along with the distance of both bodies from both each other and Earth, all of these measurements equal what people on this planet know as a solar eclipse. Not every system out there has this spectacle. Pretty sure we know of exactly zero other eclipses like our eclipse. And the moon is getting further away and if everything stays in tact, that means eventually no more total solar eclipse. It's a window to something that is out of his world. Something that no other celestial body in the entire universe may ever get to witness. But I guess it's just a random one of kind window to a random one of kind event that random one of a kind planet with random one of kind life get to experience. Now did I lose you, or are you following? I don't know how much better of a path I can make.
