The 2nd GrowingDeerTV vid I've watched that reminds us all of what veteran hunters and conservationists think at the moment after the shot: the hunt is everything UP TO THE SHOT. The prep, scouting, planning, luck, and soaking up days in the woods (good and bad). Always producing a great list of reminders concerning how good we have got it, hunting in the US, Dr Grant. Thanks.

I am fairly new to this series, and i must say that I have really gotten hooked on it. I appreciate how much the hunters respect the animal they harvest. Its almost hunting tips all the way through, which is great for a 32-year-old hunter. It goes to show you can never stop learning info on whitetails. Thanks for letting the camera rolls. Thanks for sharing.

I got a question for yall...I hunt a small piece of land behind a subdivision (7 acres). I am getting pictures of does and i have 3 really dandy bucks. unfortunately all were shot opening day of firearm. exept 1 who got hit by a truck infront of my house. my question is what should i do now for next year to get these bucks during bow season. should I put in a small foodplot? please help.
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 7 жыл бұрын
I would try your best to identify the =forage deer are consuming during the early season. In some areas of the whitetails range this may be acorns. If this is the case, scout before season to identify the trees with the most acorns. Whatever the food source maybe indentifying it before season will give you the leg up so you can hunt them more effectively. prior to opening day of fiearms seson. . -Matt

@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 7 жыл бұрын
We like to hunt when there is a 10% change in weather. Whether that is temperature, barometric pressure etc. Often a cold front creates those swings in weather and thats the difference. It is not necessarily the exact temperature, it's the change. -Daniel

Is it good to eat them with a growth? And how is the best way to hunt the moon phase
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 7 жыл бұрын
Good question. We look at them closely...if there's infection we do not eat them. The proper thing to do is call the local DNR agent and let them know about the diseased deer harvested. There are gads of calendars, articles, etc., that predict when deer will be most active based on the phase of the moon. Some are online, some are for sale, and some are published in hunting magazines. However, there have been numerous scientific studies using actual conception dates of deer, movement patterns collected by GPS collars, etc. None of these studies have found any correlation of deer activity and specific moon phases. Maybe these studies aren’t looking for the correct correlation. There is always room for further research. I hunt when I can and absolutely don’t worry about what’s the current phase of the moon. With that said, if you have a system that works for you, don’t change! For more on the moon and hunting check out the following: www.growingdeer.tv/view/2012/10/26/deer-activity-moon-rut-or-weather/

35 pounds will cleanly harvest deer. I am comfortable pulling 65 lbs back with my bow. So I practice and hunt with my bow set at 65 lbs. This is plenty enough to effectively take whitetails. -Matt

How do you like your prime bows? I'm looking into buying my first bow which I want the best quality for deer hunting. Looking into the prime bow or the Mathews no cam compound bow. Thanks, Tyler
@GrowingDeerTV

Tyler, we really like the Primes. Depending on your size, I would suggest looking into the Prime Centergy. It has a total new design different from any other bow. The design reduces pin float allowing the shooter to be much more accurate! Grant harvested several deer this winter with the Centergy. What do plant in ur food plot that's best for deer because we got a food plot not long ago and we don't really know what's good for deer can u please tell me what's best if u do thanks
@GrowingDeerTV

The choice for a food plot depends a lot on size of the plot, the number of deer in the area, the amount of sun it receives, etc. In the fall we plant Eagle Seed Broadside Blend. In our larger food plots we plant Eagle Seed forage soybeans in the spring. If you watch our food plot videos at this link you will learn much more than can be shared here in this comment box. Hey Growing Deer tv, I'm looking for tips to make my farm better for deer. we have recently noticed that we aren't seeing as many deer as we did 4-5 years ago. my land is 174 acres and there is cattle on it. any tips you guys could give me?
@GrowingDeerTV

You may consider looking to improve the security cover on the property. Also are there any field edges or odd areas not being used by cattle? If so, planting food plots in those areas may help to attract deer into the open. -Matt

This is the part that I hunt, it's mostly acorn trees, the clear cut between the tree lines is got a pretty good slope going down and flattens out near the rock piles. I do usually see a few does grazing in the clear are. The is one spot the cattle cannot get to but it's just the thick trees _lh3.googleusercontent.com/MxopMVsojKwD-I0cwFh07KJ94FhgfdVMBmDxOoclF4E_sE9JWpC2ZSrTFSlHh8f5mVCCt1TT_

GDtv, is there a website or calculator that shows you how many does i should take off of my property?
@GrowingDeerTV

There is not an equation that will provide you will an solid answer. There are many variables that play into this decision. We use utilization cages in our food plot to monitor how much browse pressure each plot has and go from there! -Matt

Those areas are often great areas to clear and allow native grasses and forbes to grow. This is much higher quality cover and is a food source. More so than cedars. -Daniel

Depending on how long it takes for you to get the food plot ready for planting (see our food plot videos) kzfaq.info/sun/PLQYBop7_Gt_FqPNC_krQLN-znbKM6cWs4 - food plots will generate within seven to 10 days.

How can I get a lot of land to manage deer on
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 6 жыл бұрын
Some common alternatives: Join a hunting club, Lease land and get permission for habitat improvement, form a hunting co-op and help surrounding landowners/hunters with their projects, buy land for hunting either on your own or with partners. Grant started out with his own 13 acres...then worked hard , had great credit, saved money, and eventually God blessed us with the Proving Grounds. Why don't you guys usually weigh your deer on camera. In Maine, weight is a big part of a mature buck. We aren't blessed with giant antlers as often as you guys in the Midwest.
