I’ve been considering this eyepiece for a while, so I’m delighted to see this review. I have a very cheap, pretty crappy telescope (beginner’s error unfortunately), and am not blessed with a huge budget, therefore feel that a fancy, expensive eyepiece would be wasted on it. So I have been mostly sticking to Svbony products, and have yet to be let down by one. They are always seem to be far better built than the price would have you expect. Looking forward to adding this to my collection! Thank you for posting 🙏🏼.

Hi, friend. A few months ago I bought a zoom lens identical to this one. I am very happy and satisfied with it. It is very practical when it comes to varying the magnification, without losing sharpness. It is also very easy to use. I agree 100% with your review. It is also a very accessible, compact and very well built product. I highly recommend it. I use it on a Celestron Astromaster 130mm f5 telescope. Thanks for the video. Best regards from Uruguay.

Great video. @8:00 I believe the FOV actually increases as focal length shortens. Specs on their website show that from 7-21mm it's 57°-40° (if I read that correctly) I liked their variable lunar filter so I took a gamble and bought their 7-21mm zoom 2 months ago. When you attach the variable filter it makes for a great lunar eyepiece. It takes some fiddling with but you'll get a feel for using both together. So far it's my favorite and most versatile eyepiece. My telescope is a Meade Infinity 90mm for anyone curious. On a side note if you are considering or need video ideas, how about a series for beginners on how and what to view with your telescope? The moon is a good place to start for obvious reasons but even there as a beginner I don't really know what to look for and when. Think of it like a guided tour of the craters and lava flows and the best times to see them.

This zoom punches well above its price tag, very nice on the moon and planets. Orion sells it as an E-Series 7-21 zoom eyepiece, i posted a lengthy review of it on there before these zooms became popular, they are nothing like other cheap zooms which should be avoided. You cant go wrong with this zoom.

Brilliant video! Have you ever heard/used the Celestron inspire 100AZ refractor telescope before? Just wondering 🙌 I'm getting that telescope on Christmas this year and I'm soo excited! It's a perfect, medium sized, basic telescope I've ever found on websites for me. and definitely going to be loads better than my 'broken' Meade 600az Infinity telescope (I think that's the name of the telescope I got) 🔭😁

I had a really bad experience with celestron. Apparently their cheaper beginner products are "hobby killers" and the one I had definitely was. I couldn't track targets in the sky and the controls were horrible. I was afraid it was me being a beginner and not knowing how to use it but I when I got my next scope I learned it quickly.

I have been wondering about investing in a zoom eyepiece when I upgrade to a 12-inch dob sometime in the next year or two. My current scope, a 4.5 inch Newtonaian EQ that I've had since the early 90s, is 0.965 inch eyepiece barrel size so I will have to invest in an entirely new set of eyepieces. This gives me some good food for thought.

I used a Zoom EP to give me variety of magnifications and FOV to show me what i like, and what is useful. I did a celestron 24-8mm...and whave ive discovered is that i use a 24mm for 90% of my targets, so i def want a good 20-24mm ep with a huge FOV. When the planets are back in the night sky, i plan to get a good planetary EP like 6mm with decent FOV. However, i will always recomend a zoom EP to people looking to buy their first EP without breaking the bank on the "wrong" eye piece

Since then, I have purchased an Astromaster accessory kit from the same brand (model 94307); which it comes with a 2x lens, also with a 15mm and a 6mm eyepiece, along with different color filters (not idea how to use them, yet). Hi , I just got a Tasco Reflector Telescope as a gift and I bought a 90° erecting prism for the scope but it seems like it does not work it looks blurry and I need some advice on what can I do or buy for it, because the images look upside down. The focal length on my scope is 500mm and objective Diameter is 114mm. I’m not sure if I bought the right one. Thank you. By the way your video are great.

My guess is you won't need an erecting prism for a reflector. Did any eyepieces come with it?

@@gladysbruno2190 Correct. You would typically only use a prism with a refractor, not a reflector.

Forgive me, but I'm confused about your last calculation with the max number of the eyepiece being 21mm. Can you tell me how you came up with the 171 number using this adjustable eyepiece? I have a 650mm with a max eyepiece of 25mm. This gives me a total of 26. My diameter is 6" X 30 = 180. Did I miss anything?

My telescopes has a 1,200mm focal length so at 7mm it gives me a magnification of 171x and a 21mm it gives me a magnification of 57x. 1,200/7 and 1,200/21

@@placeofjose1 It sounds like the focal point of those eyepieces isn't working with the focal point of your telescope. Sometimes a simple extension tube is need. Make sure the eyepiece won't fall but try to slowly move it towards you when it's in the focuser. Adjusting that height and seeing things as more sharp might tell you that it just need an adapter to have it sit higher in the focuser.

The so-called in-focus on some refractors isn't short enough, so the only solution is to add a Barlow lens to bring the focus point back to the eyepiece. It seems counter intuitive but its the same problem as when using a binoviewer on short focus travel refractor tubes. SCTs generally don't have a problem - not sure about Newtonians as that will depend on how close to the secondary mirror you can get with the 'in-focus' travel and not cross into the light cone to the main mirror.

the baader is a brilliant eyepiece, as is the svbony, but the baader is darker and has more contrast and nebulosity. although for the average beginner the difference may go completely unnoticed so the extra £100 may be completely wasted. to someone who has been into astronomy for a couple years and has a fair bit of experience with astronomy, the baader is worth the extra penies.

@allnamesaretaken 3 жыл бұрын
This zoom works well with a barlow lens, if your focal length is long you may not need one and hit the maximum magnification your telescope is capable of before going into empty magnification territory and don't forget that the atmosphere limits how high a telescope can go and this can change from hour to hour, day to day. 2X Barlow lenses where the nose piece screws off, these are usually black at the top, silver in the middle and black at the bottom can convert the 7mm setting with the nosepiece at 1.5X to 4.6mm and 3.5mm with the 2X. One example, a Skywatcher Heritage 130p has the ability to go up to 260X under excellent atmospheric conditions, likely 200X or less most of the time. It has a focal length of 650mm, at the 7mm setting it only gives 93X which is ok for many things but not enough for for others so in the case a barlow lens would be useful for the moon and planets giving 134X with a 1.5X nosepiece and 186X with a 2X barlow, reasonable. Another example, the 7mm gives 143X in my 8inch, with the 1.5X nosepiece, 218X, not bad but i can go higher quite often with the 2X to 286X, rarely go higher due to atmospheric limits. Stacking barlow lenses is a valid way to increase magnification, many expensive eyepieces contain a barlow but they call it a smyth lens and those same companies sell barlow lenses and telecentric lenses to use with them or eyepieces sold by other brands.
