Sit back and enjoy the action at the 50th Great Dorset Steam Fair, as this film covers, the Heavy Haulage Arena, also known as 'the play pen'.

I think I'm right in saying the great Dorset steam fair is then largest gathering of steam vehicles anywhere in the world. You can't see it all in a weekend.

At 2:26 is that a traction engine towing a lorry towing a steam engine?
@bentalexranebundgaard48675 жыл бұрын
Correct, you have won a cookie...
@bd80265 жыл бұрын
Avro Bomber Gaming But was the lorry also towing? Two engine power for extra wide/extra heavy loads, that sort of thing?
@Eddiee7574 жыл бұрын
MegaBytes no the lorry can tow the train on its own it’s just showing the strength of a traction engine

So, judging by what I'm seeing in the nighttime footage, they probably didn't use these machines for haying much! Cool to see 100 plus year old equipment still chugging along! I'd like to see some POS car of today in 100 years, it will be a pile of dust.

Was the tractor pulling the semi with the train engine under its own steam by itself, or was the truck pulling too? Two engine power?
@Maximilian79925 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure the truck was pulling too. Traction engines aren't as strong as a normal steam engine

Interesting enough. Americans do have a good deal of Steam tractor and some early steam powered citycars, but Steamtrucks are British - only thing.
@kyleshores4325 жыл бұрын
Ehh, we had a few, but they were a bit of a flop from what I can tell
@DiscothecaImperialis5 жыл бұрын
So 'Steam trucks' did exists in America as well? (or had been made there before?)
@kyleshores4325 жыл бұрын
believe so, think it was more of a price issue that caused them to flop, similar to the Massey Harris GP tractor, several other early model articulated tractors flopped for similar reasons as well.....
@DiscothecaImperialis5 жыл бұрын
First I believe that Americans develop combustion engines faster. and someone like Henry Ford entered Automotive Industry with combustion engines while anyone else before him (White included) kicked off with steam and switched to combustion abit late.

Am I missing something, or was there very little (as in no) steam coming out of many of those steam powered vehicles?
@MrDaiseymay5 жыл бұрын
OH DAM, YOU'VE SPOTTED IT. YEP, THEY ARE ACTUALLY ELECTRIC MODELS. HAD THE WEATHER NOT BEEN IN THE MID 80'S, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE STEAM
@PenisCupcakePoop5 жыл бұрын
Because of the uppercase, I can't tell if this is serious or sarcasm.
@SynchroScore5 жыл бұрын
On steam locomotives, as well as traction engines and steam lorries, the exhaust steam is channeled from the cylinders through blast pipes and up the chimney. This draws more air through the firebox, as well as creating the distinctive chuffing sound. You'll only really see escaping steam if the safety valve lifts (the boiler pressure is too high, and excess steam is vented) or if the cylinder cocks are open, which is only done when the engine has been sitting for a while and there is possibly water condensed inside.
