Hey Jim, thank you for allowing us to tour your garden. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it. You were the star of the show so we didn’t get an opportunity to meet you but luckily we met your wife and she is very lovely. Thank you so much for spreading your knowledge on these videos. Your wisdom of the zone we/you live in have helped and inspired my wife in her gardening journey. Thank you very much and please keep doing what you’re doing, we all appreciate and look forward to it.

Jim - the patio turned out _beautifully_! The most important thing, of course, is that Holly approves, but the humans also appreciate it; looks like it has been there a long time, and goes beautifully with the style of the house and your garden style. What you and Steph have done with the place in the last four years is remarkable. And, since you took the time today to express appreciation for your audience, I wanted to thank you for the great videos. I always learn something from you!

The tan stones in your patio almost exactly match the color of Holly’s coat. You color coordinated your patio with your lovely dog. Probably unintentional but so cool!

Your words of gratitude are heartfelt❤ For someone that disliked science in school (many moons ago), you have captivated me and turned me into a plant nerd. I've learned soo much from you and Stephany - each week I pick up new information and apply it to my garden. The patio (aka Holly's stage) is the most beautiful one I've seen. Nicely done!! The $500 watermelon had me cracking up 🤣

It was great to meet you two yesterday. Sorry my kiddo took a dip in the cooler. I was just so shocked by the color of your garden. The camera doesn’t do it justice. I’ve always liked the colors but we were just in shock at how amazingly bright it was. If you open again can it be in winter though? Lol the whole fam asked me to ask you if you’d open again in winter 😂 anyway thank you so much. I’m so glad I got to be there and so thankful. Stephanie it was a regal jumping spider on my shirt, I meant to tell you that’s why we wouldn’t hurt it and Tate wasn’t scared. He loves jumping spiders.

Thanks so much for answering my two little questions that I "brought with me" to the Open Garden. My background is in engineering, but learning everything i can about gardening/soil and all the other things that you espouse on your channel has opened up a whole new set of things to learn. Even my millennial sons enjoy watching your KZfaqs when I play them when they visit. This is a great compliment. 😊 It was AMAZING to see your garden and you guys in person, and it has inspired me to do even more. ❤

Hopefully you will offer another tour some day. Thank you for all you do for us newbie gardeners. I have transformed a clean slate on a new construction into a small piece of paradise for my husbsnd and I...i am very thankful for this space as a serene garden for recovery.

Here's an interesting bit of plant-naming trivia: In Japan, crape myrtles are called 'monkey slide' trees (saru suberi) because the stems are so smooth that monkeys can (theoretically) slide down them! I'm glad we use Latin names to keep everything consistent. I used to be annoyed when an article or person only used the Latin name, but largely thanks to your videos I can now recognize many of them and know their general characteristics. Thanks!! And please do have another open garden sometime if this one went well; I couldn't make it this year.

It was such a treat to meet you, Steph, and Charlie yesterday at your home garden tour! 🤩 My little ones and my husband were very impressed by the number of plants you have in the same sized property that we live on. My 5 year old was so excited to see the weeping redbud and shed "in real life" (she thought your garden was make believe -- like the movies-- until our visit 😂). Interacting with you all was truly the highlight of my weekend, and seeing all of my new plants at a more mature stage in your garden was very encouraging. Thanks again (from the lady with the large floppy black and white hat 😁) for sharing your gardens with so many enthusiastic viewers!! 🙏🏾

I've pulled a perennial up while I removed an aggressive grass out of my flower bed. I'm glad I kind of quarantined it in a pot because, as I suspected, that grass was entirely growing through the roots. Had I put the plant back in the ground, I would have been right back where I started.

I came back to TN and we’re also in a heatwave. Should I wait to plant the Butterfly Candy till it cools down a little bit? It made it through the 8 hour car ride so well. It didn’t even wilt. I couldn’t believe it. It’s so funny that I won that because it’s actually the exact one (Lil Grape)that I’ve been looking for since last year. Now my mom is asking me to get her one. Also my niece was there and after seeing your garden and taking maybe a million photos of your hydrangeas, she wants to start growing them. You got her off the cell phone and planning a garden. I think that’s what this channel is all about. You’re instilling the love of horticulture even in the kiddos. I’m so glad to be here.

All great answers. Your patio looks fabulous. It shows that you clearly know what you are doing! Your focus on building the soil is one of the most useful contributions to this format on You tube. It is simply not discussed enough. Thank you. I have been following a similar path in soil development and it is truly amazing what it can do. A topic on which it may be helpful to cover is handling too much water. The strong downpours we are getting with climate change need to be addressed. How do we deal with it?

I am in Zone 8b and have a question regarding watering with a sprinkler. I watched a couple of your watering videos from years past and they were very helpful, but I am hoping that you can discuss whether or not watering a flowerbed with an overhead sprinkler is a good option. My flowerbed is mostly planted with perennials but has a few annuals. Since this flowerbed is large it would be helpful to be able to use a sprinkler and not have to water by hand each time. Some of the plants in this bed include Little Lime Hydrangea, Coral Magic Crapemyrtle, Loropetalum, Miss Molly Butterfly and Pugster Blue butterfly bushes, Muhly grass, Pentas and Shasta Daisies, Sunshine Ligustrum and Emerald Greens. Putting this bed on irrigation is not an option right now. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and beautiful garden with us each week.
