Join me as I head out into nature to look for a Great Grey Owl that will inspire my next painting. Having a great wildlife sighting has always been an important process in my journey of creating artwork, and this was one of the best experiences I've had with this bird! Then I'll bring the painting together and share my thoughts and feelings about the process. Enjoy!

Thank you!! And thank you so much for sharing my video! I wanted to show a bit of the larger process that goes beyond just the painting part of it. Finding good inspiration and good ideas, and a bit of the journey it takes to get it there. I hope to do more of these in the future that go deeper into what I'm doing and why. I'm so glad you liked this one!!

😮 what amazing realism. I just came across your channel and have been watching each video back to back. I am mesmerized by your work. Knowing you work with a limited palette and number of brushes is so inspiring. I've only been painting less than 6 years and leaves and birds are my favourite subjects. I'm far from achieving your level.

Hello Joseph, I hope you are doing well. It makes me smile when other KZfaqrs say that it took a week or so to do their videos, whereas yours take years to tell your story. I don't know anyone else who does what you do. I am sitting here with my coffee and watching your video and loving every moment of it. I hope you realize how much you give people and how much you inspire them/me to try and not worry about failing. I recently bought acrylic supplies to try and paint. I have been working with soft pastels and watercolour. I wanted to try and see if I can get realism with acrylics like I can with my other mediums. I have learned a lot about how to keep the paints workable for longer as that was the biggest problem I was encountering. I also found that using slightly warm water to rinse brushes and mix with it, makes the paint glide even more. So I did a test between mixing paint with mediums compared to using mixing with water. It's been fun trying things out. However, I still have to get over this "thing" I have with blending the paints to make them smooth so there are no brush strokes. I keep feeling that's what I should do. Though I recently realized that's not the case. Watching you paint this owl reinforced that your brush strokes and layers are important. I said once before, if I had a teacher like you back in school I wouldn't have chosen a career in finance. I can't say thank you enough for your help. You're an amazing person. ❤

Thank you so much!! And thank you for this amazing comment. I'm so glad to hear how this was inspirational and how my videos have helped you in your art journey. That's great that it's helped you not worry about failing when it comes to trying new things - that's so important. Took me a while to learn that for myself and realize that the things that didn't work out were an opportunity to learn something new try it a different way. And I'm happy to hear that you are learning a bunch with your acrylics and experimenting with getting them to flow better. Layers are definitely a key thing when it comes to acrylics and it can help in getting that smooth look. Hopefully I can show more of that in future videos. And I hope to do more videos like this that go into other parts of my process that are just as important. Sometimes these things can take years, but that's ok, they are so thrilling when I finally figure out what to do and I can paint them. Seeing wildlife is also so important to me and I hope to share more experiences like this one in the future. Thank you again!!

The Great Grey had a nest in my neighbors Pine trees a number of years ago. I had done sketches. They do tend to come into the city, and Nest. in Milwaukee WI. area. Hope you do not MIND , I USE YOU to help MOTIVATE me to continue to Paint Nature in WISCONSIN. TOO Many I know are NOT BIRD LOVERS. Tell me ABSTRACT art is what sells . But Abstract as finished Art is more individual person choice NATURE to share is to all those that care and appreciate the Work so many birds do to help LOVE your video on The GREAT GREY.

That would be such a treat to have a Great Grey nest so close by. It took me quite a bit of searching to find this one! And I am happy to have you use my videos for inspiration - it's one of the main reasons I make my videos. I think the thing when it comes to creating art is to create what resonates with you, regardless of popular opinion or what might be considered more sellable. I love wildlife and having great wildlife experiences in nature like this one - so that is what paint.

Thank you. I am great full I do not feel 75. I use to have land in Arkansas, in the old forest area, IVORY BELLED WOOD PECKER Pair. Were in the back by me. THEY sound like an Enormous NUTHATCH,, THINK they are perhaps still somewhere around the Buffalo River area. Texas farmers bought much of the in the Old forest area by me. in the 90's, and cut it all down for their cattle. The IVORY BILLED wood pecker Pair, think they nested in a tree that had to be 6ft around or more. I never did get see any of the young HOPE IN YOUR LIFETIME YOU COULD SEE THEM. Others in Arkansas had had seen them too in the 80's. Female was beautiful with her black crest. Great Grey heard in the Pine Trees last night Bay VIEW. . THINK WHITE FISH BAY WI, or Shorewood have been lucky to have them nest 2 years ago. THEY like to be where they are not far from RODANTS , but area with big Trees. In the city , near UWM many college students are not the greatest when it comes to disposing their trash. mice, rats , raccoons possum , skunks, squirrels are for the picking @@JosephKoensgen
