The Great hornbill or the great Indian hornbill is found in the Indian subcontinent.
Great hornbill eating a fledgling bird.
This rare wild video documentation explains the omnivorous behaviour of the Great Hornbill. The Hornbill extracts a new born chick of another bird species from the nest inside the dead tree and tosses it before swallowing it as part of the opportunistic omnivorous food behaviour. Subscribe now for the upcoming Hornbills of India documentation.
Its impressive size and colour have made it important in many tribal cultures and rituals. The great hornbill is long-lived, living for nearly 50 years in captivity. It is predominantly frugivorous, but is an opportunist and will prey on small mammals, reptiles and birds. Due to habitat loss and hunting in some areas, the great hornbill is evaluated as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (uplisted from near threatened in 2018). More at

Yea i was mistaken. It is borneo rhinoceros hornbill we have here. Our Dayaknese people used their tail feather as hair accesoris for traditional dancer. And the men in our tribe used their horn as well. But of course it's banned now due to extinction. My husband said he had seen ones while riding motorcycle in the urban area next to the forest. Like 2 or 3 birds fliying in a group. And they were absolutely beautiful. What an exotic bird.

Why not? I can and I do. Unfortunate for the chick, which could have lived to become an adult, but the hornbill fed well and will live on, possibly creating new chicks himself. Circle of life and whatnot. It ain't that hard.
