Roy reminds me if a guy on watch here in Ireland. “John Lords secret garden” He’s very funny. He shoves things in, rips things outs. Chelsea chops everything. Blends colours together. Very similar outlook as Roy. There’s nothing like words of wisdom from years of experience.

Your willingness to share the stage with others is an asset in so many ways. I enjoy vicariously, as I do not have a garden. In my dry, high elevation [4100 ft.]environment only three flowering plants survive the onslaught of a seven-member deer herd.

I have know about and admired Roy for years I love the way he gardens. I think that the way that he designs in his book are amazing. I do have to complaints concerning this video - both technical. Having listened to his programs , this is a problem with him. He mumbles. I have the audio up to 100% both on the video and the monitor very difficult to hear even then. the second problem - while you and he were discussing the plants standing on the path and looking into the garden and pointing. We were looking at you - not the plants. Wish I could see what you were referencing .

Thank you so much for this video and introducing us to Roy Diblik and his designs. I garden in Minnesota (4b) and love that so many of your featured plants can be grown here too. I recently moved to my father's home after his passing and let's just say, while we both can grow things well, neither of us have/had design skills I moved many of my favorite plants from my last garden to this yard in a holding area and I get to combine his plants with some of my favorites as I create some new gardens.I am always looking for inspiration and ideas and appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience.

I like the alphabet idea...schreech- add a walnut tree into the mix. Now you've got 10 letters. Man, Im struggling to find what is both pleasing and sustainable. In my wisdom, I made a huge, mostly sun rain garden right near the drip edge. So, after 6 years of trial and error, I've resorted to junipers, day lilies, hostas, alliums, sedum & dayflower on the dryer area and just let ranunculus take over the occasionally wet "dry creekbed" part. It feels like cheating on the creativity test.
@seachange17
@seachange17 3 жыл бұрын
Same here. I have a 125 x 40 ft ridge with 6 mature Walnut trees. They are actually gorgeous shade trees. It's a challenge with the walnuts and trying to stay mostly native. I've planted juglone tolerant: 3 ninebark, 1 fringe tree, 2 redbud, many alliums, wild geranium, astilbe, violets and brown eyed susan and coneflower (where it's sunny).
@amyk6403
@amyk6403 3 жыл бұрын
@@seachange17 Sounds like my plant pallette as well. We have 1/2 an acre and there are at least 7 walnut trees within a block- two in my yard. We have Mulberry trees, elm, arborvitae, forsythia, witch hazel, (unfortunately), norway maple, Taylor eastern red cedar, and lots of ninebark. Spirea do ok, as long as their not under the canopy. Smooth hydrangea is doing well within 15 ft. of the dripline. Viburnum opulus and viburnum dentatum Chicago lustre live right under the canopy and are doin fine. But they are in the front foundation planting and may get too big. Fails: Cornus alba, cornus sericea, panicled hydrangea, spirea if too close to drip line., etc. Many of my problems might also be caused by silty clay soil and too much shade.
