00:44 A1 catches the throw-in pass with one foot on the floor in A's frontcourt and the other foot not touching the floor. The non-pivot foot then comes down in A's backcourt.
02:57 WITH BOTH TEAMS IN THE BONUS, A1 IS FOULED BY B1. BEFORE A1 RELEASES THE TRY ON THE FIRST THROW, TEAMMATE A2 FOULS B2. A1’S THROW IS SUCCESSFUL.
07:05 A1 is making a throw-in along the sideline in team A's backcourt. A1 makes the throw-in towards A2 who is standing in team A's frontcourt. B1 deflects the throw-pass after it is released. A2 jumps from team A's frontcourt, catches the pass in the air and lands in the backcourt.

11:11 // Before the game, the officials notice that the visiting team has both a #6 and a #7 in the book. The officials allow this. Later, in the 4th period, #6 enters the game as a substitute.
13:33 // After reporting a foul on White #0, the scorer notifies the official that the home team also has #00 in book. The officials rule this to be legal. Later in the game, #00 enters the game as a substitute.
16:33 // With the score tied and 2.3 seconds remaining in the final period, A1 is fouled and awarded one-and-one. A1 misses the first free throw; B1 grabs the rebound and attempts a long try for goal. The try is unsuccessful and the teams prepare for overtime. Before the overtime begins, the officials are notified that A1 should have received two free throws instead of a one-and-one.
18:48 // A1 gets the ball in the post, drives to the basket and is fouled by B1. The ball goes in. A1 turns and taunts B1 and is assessed a technical foul. It is A1's 5th foul.

On sideline throw in if it’s not tipped then is it legal? How does the tip matter?
@JaySeverson

Really struggling with this inbound play being a backcourt violation. So if A2 had tipped it to himself in the backcourt he woulda been ok, but because he grabbed the ball while airborne he established PC and therefore FC status. Is that right? SITUATION 12: A1 has the ball for an end-line throw-in in his/her frontcourt. A1’s pass to A2, who is in the frontcourt standing near the division line, is high and deflects off A2’s hand and goes into Team A’s backcourt. A2 is then the first to control the ball in Team A’s backcourt. RULING: Legal. There is no backcourt violation since player control and team control had not yet been established in Team A’s frontcourt before the ball went into Team A’s backcourt. The throw-in ends when A2 legally touches the ball, but the backcourt count does not start until A2 gains control in his/her backcourt. (4-12-2, 9-9)

Jay, the key Point here is that there is an exception to the back court rules that allow a player during a free throw jump ball or while on defense to jump from the front Court catch the ball in the air and make a landing in the back court. That exception exists during a throw in we see it a lot it's not uncommon. The exception disappears though when the throw-in ends and the throwin ends in this case on the touch by the defender once that touch has occurred there is no exception for our player.

Greg, do you have any links or resources for after game behavior or technicals? Not sure how we should adjudicate that stuff if at all. Thx

On the last play scenario, the technical foul still belongs to the previous period that had ended, the offended team would then receive the ball at the division line opposite the table for a throw in. But. Since the period is over there would be no throw in. (The technical foul throw in for the offended team would not extend to the next period?). Is this why it became an alternating possession throw in to start the period? (Or, should the technical foul throw in start the next period?) I am assuming that after the technical foul free throws are attempted, the any result that would follow, would not matter since the period is now “over”. Hope that question is understandable. Thanks

(Year 1 ref here) On the end of the game, 1 and 1 play (Supposed to be 2 shots) - if the long shot by B1 was made, does that change the ruling to be not correctible?
@BetterOfficials
@BetterOfficials Жыл бұрын
Hi Sean It wouldn't change whether it was correctable or not. It would still be within the correctable error time frame. The difference would be that the result of the single free throw would not be attempted as it would have no effect on the results of the game.

Hi Greg - on your first play scenario with the player having only 1 foot in the front court and 1 in the air... is then a foot in the air assumed to have the same status as the foot on the ground?
@BetterOfficials
@BetterOfficials Жыл бұрын
The *player* has the status of the foot in contact w the court. That would include all extremities!

On the blarge call they put the ball in play with a none spot throw in on the baseline. However when the fouls occured the ball did not have team control status since it was in the process of a try. If it was a double foul in rebounding action of a try it would be a an AP throw in. What is the difference?
@BetterOfficials
@BetterOfficials Жыл бұрын
A key difference is a goal was scored. After a goal, the opponent gets an endline non-designated spot throw-in!

Greg, a quick question on the POI for the AP throw in/free throw/ correctable error situation. I understood the situation to be that at the whistle for the held ball, the officials are notified about the error, meaning there hasn’t been a change of possession. Just because I whistle a ball out of bounds doesn’t mean a team has “possession” at that point, does it? By rule, a team has control when the ball is at their disposal. Meaning, if I’m thinking before B has the ball at the disposal, this can be a regular POI play, I.e., no change of possession and put the kid due the feee throw on the line and lane spaces filled. Are you reading this differently?

Your reasoning is sound, but case play overrides 2.10.1 SITUATION F: A1 is fouled but erroneously is not awarded two free throws even though the automatic bonus is in effect. Team A is given a throw-in, and A1 inbounds the ball to A2 who is tied up by B1 resulting in a held-ball situation. The error is discovered following the held-ball call. The possession arrow is pointing to: (a) A’s; or (b) B’s basket. RULING: In (a), the merited free throws will be awarded, and play will continue from that action, since Team A had not lost possession between the error and when the error was recognized. However, in (b), the lane is cleared for A1’s merited free throws, and play resumes from the point of interruption which is an alternating-possession throw-in by Team B.

@@BetterOfficials so in (a) situation: A gets their merited free throws, a chance to rebound the miss and gets to keep the arrow?

Hi I have another question I’ve been a basketball referee for about 16 years and this is the first time I saw this happened the guy shooting two free throws the first free-throw goes in the second free-throw gets stuck the ball gets stuck between the rim the flinch and the backboard what is the ruling is a jumper or does he get another free-throw thank you let me know thank you so much. I love your show
@BetterOfficials

When does the free throw end? Throwing team violates, ball becomes dead, try ends. In this situation the try has ended it does not have a chance to go in the free throw. Go to the alternating possession method for the subsequent throw in.
