that So - Kasparov game really was like Morphy vs. N.N. Kasparov must have been wishing he'd stayed in happy retirement. But at least he got 2 free pawns, so ultimately, they both won.

Wesley So is a super-GM who is not a loud mouth schnook. What's not to like? In the recent 2023 SCC, he won against Alireza Firouzja, no slouch at speed chess.

I’ve always wondered what Ben considers his greatest strength as a Chess Player is. What other GM’s and IM’s were most afraid to face when playing him. Technique in the Endgame, calculation in the middle game, incredible prep.. I wish he would do a video on himself for these lectures !

In your opinion, Mr. Grandmaster Finegold, why did Wesley switched to a more solid, drawish style from his sharp style beforehand? And do you think Wesley would have a higher rating if he would try for a win more than go for the safe draw (i.e. would he get more wins than losses if he doesn't settle for draws)?
@AlvinAlmuete

Being at the top, it must so difficult to squeeze out a win. Chess players tend to play more solid than being reckless attacker in the long run.

I think it is just personality. And probably now more in line with his personality ( and that is just part of chess too, for example Magnus is a true killer). He managed to break out that for some time, but I have given up that he will consisently do that again. A pitty since peak Wesley is in my top 3 favorite players of all time

Kasparov isn't generous in defeat, and his "...that was Morphy vs Amateur and I was the amateur" makes him sound generous in the re-telling. Actually he was playing down Wesley's achievement in that game. Yasser said, "...wasn't Wesley amazing....? etc" and Gary shrugged and said what he said - ie, "I played so badly, so far below my usual level that it was like Morphy v Amateur. Not such a big deal really." And re Wesley and his friendship with Akobian - in the interview after the snitching episode he replied to the question "you're friends with Akobian aren't you?" by saying "I was". So I thought it was that way round, ie He was, Snitch, he wasn't - - not, He wasn't, Snitch, he was (friends). It was a very mean snitch.

Man, Wesley So is like the James Harden of chess. Savant, but never gets right to the top. All the candidates tournaments he's just laid eggs. He can't seem to get past Nepo and Ding and Karjakin and Caruana. I can see why Ben is such a big fan of his chess, but for some reason it isn't translating to the world championships.
@infinitrixtv5847
@infinitrixtv5847 8 ай бұрын
I don't think So. Wesley So is more like Ronaldo who is improving more and more his craft. He is a savant but he acknowledges that there are some players that are better and when you look now at his battle against Firouja he is going balistic and he is unfavorable most of the time but he shows time and time again that he's a world champ.

I'd like to play you too but....Jews are still partly blinded until after the church age is over, which may be in a few days...in which case you'll likely have to die for your faith but it's much better than burning for eternity. Get saved today Ben and you'll avoid having to die AND/OR living through 7 years of hell on earth. MUCH BETTER. I bet if you accept your Messiah I will beat you in chess in about a million years, but that's okay because that's only a million years and eternity is forever.
