I have a Male Pyrenees a little more than a year old. I found he pays much more attention to what I do than to what I say. I've trained him to just a few hand signals and we rarely have any problems. If I want him to come in from outside I turn on the microwave 😂😂😂

I totally did something I never do or recommend doing, I bought a great Pyrenees puppy out of instant connection. Was not looking to get a dog/puppy, not really considering to do so either. Pure spontaneity. Now I have a 3 month old Great Pyrenees just because she bear hugged me and gave me puppy kisses just like my current 3yr old Rotti/lab mix(rescue/raised since he was about 6 weeks old). I fell instantly in love with him and with her. I am a German Sheppard lover. Vowed I would "take my time" and search for the "right" german shepherd. Well that obviously did not happen. So I am taking a "crash course" on the breed! I am thankful for this, and many other breeders sharing information to help others who are considering a new puppy!

I like the way you raise them, I think it’s better than just sticking them in a pen with livestock. They still have their natural desire to protect but they’ll be great with their people too

I got my Pyrenees from my local animal shelter and had her trained to become my medical service dog. she has learned quickly and does bery well. It'd be more awesome if my boss would let me bring jer to work since she's registered but that's another story. But i found bending down and talking to her face to face to teach her anything new for a few times along with rewarding for learning gets the best results.

My great pyrennes is having his 3rd. Birhday jan.28th.the first two years toke alot of patience and training(and some tears).at 3 years old is when they are actually an adult dog.he is incredibly intelligent.leararned to sit, shake in 2 tries.talk him to not be aggressive over his food dish by making him sit, give me a kiss and then eat.he is very food oriented so he will do anything for a treat.hes loving, loyal, protective of me and our home.he turned out to be the sweetest dog ever, but it takes work with this breed as they can be free spirited.he used to tip his water bowl over with his paw constantly as a puppy like someone else mentioned. He also as a puppy layed on the floor to eat.hes an incredible dog.you will love having him as a companion.😊

Ive been scouring the internet for great pyrenees LGD training videos and happened upon this one. Really helpful especially the bit about how rough play can affect their physical development. Not a lot of really in depth videos on training a livestock guardian much less a GP. My pup has just started getting mouthy and my little boys are beginning to be afraid of her and i dont have many good jeans left(without holes where shes grabbed on 😂) so I am going to give this a go. Thanks and looking forward to watching your other videos and any future Great Pyrenees vids!

Me and my wife really want a Great Pyrenees, only down side is we live in a smaller townhome, BUT the townhome was built around people having dogs and they have a very extensive walking playing area near the development for walking and playing with your dog. I know they are shepherds by nature, and used to open fields what do you think? We want to buy a house with property soon but just maybe not gonna be for a year or two

My 5 month old Great Pyrenees is a wonderful family member, when she ignores me I use my Mom voice if she doesn’t listen the first time , recall all I have to do is lay down pretend to cry she’ll lay on my chest immediately, . I was wondering about getting her fixed ( not breeding her at all) but heard I should wait till she’s at least 2 so her growth plates are closed any info you might have would be helpful

My husband and I are getting our first GP puppy in a month. I feel very confident about this breed, and this video definitely calmed my nerves a lot! The only concern I have is that we have a 10 lb cat in the house. Though she has no fear of defending herself, I still worry a bit due to the massive size difference…I’m hoping that the stern “no” tactic will be enough to steer him clear of her for the most part until he calms down…I have read that the breed is good for the most part with small animals/children. Should I take any extra precautions? Also, any opinions on training collars on low settings?

I had to laugh when you helped the pup up on the couch. I have a couple border collies now almost 3 years old. One of them is able to leap over a 5' fence in a single bound like Super Dog. The other does not. When they were younger I was taking them to town with me. It was their first car ride when they weren't in a crate. The non-jumper hopped into the car. Super Dog managed to get her front paws in on the floor but was hesitating. I tried coaxing her in but it wasn't working. I lifted her back end up and helped her the rest of the way in. To this day she will not jump in the car without assistance. She puts her front feet in and looks over her shoulder at me like she's asking for help. And I help. I hope you don't end up with a 100+ pound dog looking at you for help up on the couch!

Hello, We are rescuing our first GP puppy. We had a question about brushing/combing. At what age do you recommend using an undercoat rake? Or is it when they get a nice thick coat?
@laydenhollowhomestead
@laydenhollowhomestead 10 ай бұрын
When they have a nice thick coat is when you should use the rake . You can use it anytime but when they are puppies you will need to be careful not to hurt their skin.

I had a husband like that. it was a dictatorship. I am so much happier now, I am single, own 11 acres, a nurse, 100 chickens, 2 horses, 3 parrots, and 2 Great Pyrenees. Work hard and 3 vehicles, paid for house, and great paying job. Now don't need a man in my life nor do I want one.

What I do when the weather gets hot here my GP's come into the house on and off throughout the day to cool off in the air conditioning or you can give her a kids swimming pool filled with cool water in the shade, they love that.

I have a 16 wk Great Pyrenees. He has so much energy and does not listen very well yet. He is very stubborn and has a mind of his own. He play bites a lot. We try to play with him and also give him a lot of toys to keep his mind busy. I know it differs from dog to dog, but is there an age that the GP seems to slow down?

So I just got my first Great Pyrenees she is 12 weeks old. My biggest issue that we're having right now is she keeps tipping her water bowl over and spilling it everywhere I have spent her twice for it but I will try the method of tapping her on the nose. Other than that working with her when I'm training her on the word come and sit we're still in the beginning phases I've only had her for a week she is one of my dream dogs her name is Athena. I definitely need help she's teaching me patience all over again but training wise I know has to be different with her than most dogs, but I could use some advice and help and where to go to and I'm glad I watched this video after work do you have any videos for training with a leash and when to start.
@laydenhollowhomestead
@laydenhollowhomestead 6 ай бұрын
Start training with a leach right away. Put a collar on not a harness. First time just put it on if she freaks out , take it off, and wait a few minutes and try again if not go for a short walk and take it off Some GP's take to a leash right away and some will take a lot of time. When you have any success make sure you praise her lots they respond to praise more then anything else, they are not food driven. If you have a GP you will have to have patients lots of them because they are a thinking dog ...this will pay off in the end.. Everyone should know that each GP has its own personality.
@unholyvillain7237
@unholyvillain7237 6 ай бұрын
@laydenhollowhomestead I don't have a harness. I have a collar on her since day one when I got her. I bought a leash later she hated it she fought me on it for 2 days. Haven't tried since but I will head your advice. We're still working on commands like come and sit. She definitely has her own personality. It's adorable and frustrating at times lol. As far as potty training she stoped pooping day 2 inside and waits till I take her out but pees inside on her mats only. So we're still working on that. Some days I'm afraid she's gunna hate me when I train her. Lately she been tipping over her water bowl which is another frustration. Either when I wake up I'll see it or she wakes me up doing it. Or when I come home from work it's been done . I'm against crate training but that's just me. Any suggestions on how to fix that? I buy her water from the store so it's not bad water.

I just seen your message. What age was the puppy when you brought her home? A lot of times this happens because puppies were re homed to soon, but don't worry this is an easy fix. It will take a little time and consistency just follow my suggestions on my video it will work I guarantee it will work . Every time she goes to nip tap her on the nose with your finger (not to hard to hurt her) and say a stern no!
