Don’t make this as a standard check blindly . Every car shape , bonnet length seating positions are different . So just checking the rear view mirror to find exactly distance is not a tight approach .

You can test for different car sizes/ models and see what works for driving parallel to a sidewalk and parking. Try experimenting lining up to the curb by first lining up to the middle of your dashboard, go outside the car and observe and keep experimenting with lining up a few millimeters closer to your driving wheel tighter lines until you find what works. If you want you can chalk that area of your car. Same goes for lining up your rear view mirror and behind a car.

when the front tires bounces back, it means you've hit the gutter and you should be fine 😂 We have a standard height for gutters here in our country that every car's front bumper would not hit it unless you have it altered/lowered.

I have 360 degree camera with birds eye view along with parking sensors. I can park even 5 mm away from an object like a piece of cake. Technology rocks.

In Adelaide South Australia we should be able to see the rear wheels where they meet the ground is safe stopping area . If you have a different model car use this as a rough guide .

You're supposed to stop behind a car at a stop sign or light where you can see the concrete under the car in front of you.

Technically, you're supposed to see their tires just below the bumper, lots of cars and trucks have different heights but if you focus on the bottom of the bumper and tire, you'll always be pretty much the same exact distance from every car you pull up behind
