Yep. That was a guitar. 😂 Dimebag was able to get incredible squeals.

Pistoff 76 specific technique is called a divebomb, created with a harmonic and whammy bar! :)
@domgoddard3106

Nyle it was a dime squeal, a dive bomb is when you get the harmonic and depress the bar lowering the pitch. A dime squeal you depress the bar get the harmonic then pull the bar up

Pinch harmonics. When I first started playing guitar, I would accidentally make the guitar squeal. Every time I try to play every now and then I would hit a note and it would squeal like that. I tried everything in my power and not do that. Happening because of the way I held the pic and rudimentary stuff. I considered it a bad habit. Anyway, if they're working on it, I finally managed do not do it. Few years later, more and more thrash metal guitarist we're adding that into their playing style. So I attempted to pull off the pinch harmonics, but I did such a great job in not doing it, that I couldn't do it when I wanted to. I couldn't win back then. Darrell Abbott really used pinch harmonics to the fullest. He always seemed to put it in exactly the right place.

To me the song is more about the fact that the guy did not fully appreciate the person who died while they were alive.. and the sudden loss of the person left a painful void afterward. It is a very powerful song with a strong message to appreciate those around you whom you love. Peace

Yes, the solo is legendary. It will stand as such when even when the endless march of sand turns us to dust and bones. Dimebag will be a God to a new civilization thousands of years from now when all our modern day bullshit is long gone and forgotten. This solo will be the galactic anthem to futuristic beings whose natural speech vocalizations happen to sound exactly like electric guitar.

Nice reaction. Yep, that haunting, bone tingling high pitched squeal at the end was from Dimebags guitar. Notice how he was following Phil's high pitched singing each time and going higher with it. Amazing ending to a song. This song holds a special place in many metalhead's hearts, as well as of course all Pantera fans. RIP Dime and Vinnie \m/\m/

The story I have heard about the background of this song is that some members of Pantera were close friends with some people that had a suicide pact with each other and eventually carried it out - they changed some of the original lyrics to be less personal and more just a general mourning ballad. Can't remember where I heard that but have heard it multiple times. This song was the bridge between 80's Pantera and 90's Pantera's respective sound/vibe.

What I always interpreted is that he held a lot of pride, guilt, and pain of her dying. His thoughts and spirit are so focused on her death, that he cannot live his life as he should. Passing through the “cemetery gates” is metaphorical that he can leave her to rest in peace while he goes on with his life.

Song is about dealing with a loss of a loved one. There is sadness, anger, remorse,... he is in absolute emotional turmoil and mess. She was his world and there is duality all over. Unlocking his world, setting his soul free and passing the Cemetery gates both means passing them on the way out and moving on and considering passing them to join her and doesn't move on. There is also feeling that she was making him a better person ("chance to save my soul") and that he will be worse without her. Rhythm switches to match the emotions of passing trough the stages of grieving. And they did made an official video for this one. It was also on the soundtrack of the horror movie "Demon Knight". That soundtrack is quite impressive, unlike the movie...

This song portrays the emotions a person feels when they lose someone dear to them (maybe their partner or mother): Grief, Reminiscence, Anger and Acceptance. The lyrics portrays how the person feels sad and remembers old memories, then feels angry for leaving them behind, so soon and then accepts their death, like he accepted it and decided to finally go to her grave at the cemetery.
