Even as an avid fisherman myself I can’t say I’m a huge fan of this. Obviously you have no control of what takes your bait so it’s not like anyone can fault you for it but I really do hope this fish was released quickly and safely without any lasting harm. I have a bit of a soft spot for white sharks and the idea of one being handled for sport doesn’t sit well with me. I support catch and release fishing when it’s done humanely (obviously I do it myself) but if I can be a softy for a minute…I hope the shark is okay 😢.

So here’s how this works Fukwit, in Florida you have the option for a shark fishing license. After applying you take a course on which sharks are allowed to be brought out of the water and which are protected. Just because you can’t go shark fishing doesn’t make it illegal. You can come w me next time, I’ll let you send out the bait.

@@GrabbaBeer not nessarly no. If you can prove it was a mistake then you may get a slap in the wrist. But. In this case what should have been done is once they hooked the animal they should have IMMINENTLY and I mean IMMINENTLY unhooked the animal and realsed it right away. They INTENTIONALLY brought the animal on shore and that move alone, you can face possible jail time and at best get your fishing licenses revoked and the guy running the charter can be then banned for life for running any type of fishing charter operations. Great Whites can die very easily, even if the animal was released there is a huge chance of the animal dying right after. Great Whites are a species that require to be in constant motion or constantly swimming, it is the only way they can breath, they cannot suck in water to breathe unlike alot of shark species, they can easily suffocate even in water if they are not moving or have water flow through their gills. For ever min that animal is not moving it is even closer to death by suffocation. The chances that this animal died in my opion after this encounter is pretty high.
@GrabbaBeer

@J from the Florida website: White sharks are among the species that are prohibited from harvesting in state waters, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Prohibited shark species must remain in the water with the gills submerged when fishing from shore or from a vessel, and must be released without delay. They failed to do that. The animal was not kept submerged at all in the video with water passing through its gills.

In Florida, a special license is needed to fish for sharks from the shore and you must take a course first to get this license. You can request to harvest/ keep it at that point, and they may or may not oblige, but it's on record who and what was caught. If the same guy keeps catching bobcats or beavers when they aren't supposed to they get shut down. It's good to keep records, and it's also good not to waste a catch.

I thought endangered species were against the law to catch or capture. When theres less than 1500 Great Whites in the World. They’re an endangered species, just like Makos, Porbeagles and Great Hammerheads! Unless capn jack has a scientific degree and license to catch these sharks. Take notice, anyone can catch a fish unless its a shark!

We had a shark tournament in CC,Tx and being alot of us were fishing through the night. I had a buddy wanting me to take the kayak & drop the bait past the surf. I said to hell with that. After chumming all day & attracting all kinds of sharks. Why would you dare paddle out in the black waters at night w/bait floating on a toothpick knowing there are sharks out there way bigger than you & that boat. Id like to keep all my limbs intact thank you. lol This was a crazy good catch.

All these people commenting have clearly never been fishing before in their life. You don’t get to choose what takes your bait I’m sure these guys would have never thought they’d catch a white. That being said I hope it did live since I’m all for shark conservation especially whites. Also, since when is beach fishing considered a charter?? Lol

@@stinkyham9050 did you even read my comment dumbass?? Just because they said they were trying to catch the biggest shark possible doesn’t mean they were going for a great white. Do you know how fucking stupid you would sound if you were in Florida fishing off the beach saying “ I’m fishing for the biggest sharks great whites”. They are extremely rare Florida waters especially off the beach. I 100% know they didn’t expect to catch a white off the beach, unless they previously spotted it or were told one had been seen which they didn’t mention. If you knew even the slightest thing about fishing in Florida you would understand this but you clearly don’t. Uneducated idiots like you should really watch what you say about subjects you know nothing about unless you want to look foolish. You do realize there are hammer heads, sandbar sharks, lemon sharks, and several other species bigger than this probably 10-12 foot white they caught in Florida. If they were going for “the biggest shark” they clearly got the wrong one… jack ass.

To all the non fishermen... you are supposed to cut the line as close to the hook as possible if you cant get the hook out. The line becomes a hazard, because it doesn't degrade. The hook will eventually rust out.

To all those who say you can’t choose what you catch: You absolutely can, if you get in the water with your prey and use a speargun or sling. But that requires more guts than does sitting in a boat with a pole.

Bruh, does anyone here know a thing about fishing? Fish can survive with their gills out of the water for short periods of time (how tf are sharks supposed to get from ocean to aquarium without being caught and moved onboard the boat without coming out of the water?) and if handled correctly, absolutely no harm is done to the fish. This was catch and release if anyone thought they were trying to kill a shark. I wish I had been the one to catch that, I’m a little jealous. Can’t believe I have to say this, but k now what you are saying before you say it.
