Great White Shark encounter while kayaking off Deep Creek, South Australia

Extended footage of a nosy 3m Great White follow us while kayaking near Deep Creek. He was very inquisitive of my rudder, possibly sensing the vibrations/noise of it, but trailed directly behind my kayak coming to within a few feet of it multiple times, but never bit the rudder. We stopped and took some video footage, then put the rudder up and kept paddling, after which he lost interest. A great experience.

I note how close to land they are. In my experience, the wistful approach to large wildlife diminishes dramatically when you are 20 or 30 km out to sea.

Only just stumbled upon this vid I’ve fished that area many times for snapper in my 25 boat and seen whites there on couple occasions they chase the snapper into the cove there

@@liamrang6725 That is both true and false. White sharks often do get curious, and if that shark was stalking or hunting, he would have been at the bottom rather than near the surface. That shark was not exhibiting hunting behavior.

I don't want to sound ignorant BUT what a great white does to a surf board how is a kayak any difference ?

The difference is that the shark can see 10 little toes wiggling in the water when it comes across a surfer whereas with a kayak all it sees is an unpalatable plasticky tube.In that case the hungrier a shark is the more curious it becomes.

Calm down, Judy. Aussies know the risks when we enter the water. Way more people die in pools in Australia than at a beach. And 85% of our population live along the coastline. So basically, the ocean is everywhere here. I live 5 minutes from the beach at Christies, which is only 30 minutes from Deep Creek. You pay your money and take your chances. It's mainly swimmers, surfers, and divers, though. Kayakers are normally fine.

This is why you always carry a sizable sidearm. I would if I went out fishing like that. No way in hell would I ever, go out without my 44 Magnum-Auto-Mag. You could have killed him and then paddle a ways away and then been on about your day, going back to fishing.

Do people think that is any different than eating a hamburger, or chicken sandwich (other than it's wild-fed and far healthier and lived a much better life than those captive farm-animals most people feed on).
