That action is called "spy hopping. " Whales do it too. The shark is fairly young and just wants to check out something new in its environment.

It swam right up to the boat and opened its mouth... Someone has been feeding it from a boat. Not these people but someone from a boat, has fed that thing.

Not at all. It’s a natural behavior for them to roll like this when they approach a large object. Nobody is purposefully feeding great white sharks lol. They are just insanely abundant in New England now because the grey seal population is out of control. This shark was just curious and checking out the boat. They are trawling with live mackerel for striped bass, of course any shark nearby is going to swim over and see what’s going on. Fishing boats naturally attract sharks…nobody is hand feeding these predators unless they want to die lol. I fished commercially in Massachusetts, 10 years ago, it would be unbelievably rare and a big deal to see a great white shark. They passed regulations in 2008 that made it illegal to catch or cull gray seals and since then they became extremely overpopulated completely ruining the local endangered Striper population. So the sharks started swimming further north chowing down on all the seals since there are way too many of them. Now they are everywhere. It’s all natural. Nobody is chumming or feeding the sharks. You can’t help it if they swim over to your boat to take a look since you have bloody fish guts in the water…. It’s 100% illegal in Massachusetts to hook a great white shark or even mess with one.

Maybe it was looking for food from the boat. Because many people have been putting bait in the water to attract sharks to take pictures of them from the boats. Just like they say feeding wild animals makes them less afraid of humans. And will see humans and go over to them thinking they will have food to feed them because it might be a easy meal. Not that every boat is feeding sharks. But I doubt a shark would just know which boats had food to feed them. So they will go to a boat that is just sitting in the water not moving.😊

Even if the sharks begin to associate the boats with food (which there is rock solid evidence that they do), it is not because thrill seekers are trying to feed them….. it’s because the boats are trawling with live mackerel and pogies and reeling in big shiny stripers right in front of them. It’s called getting “sharked” for a reason when you’re reeling in a big tuna and it gets a bit in half lol. Literally anywhere else in the world where people are fishing in order to catch food you will have this phenomenon. Try fishing in Florida

I'm guessing many boaters have been feeding this thing, that's some strange behavior if not
@bfranco1519Ай бұрын
No, not intentionally. Perhaps it learned that boats equal fisherman, which equal fish and then they steal their catch.

@@bfranco1519I guess another possibility could be the video lacking context other than what the reporters are telling us, maybe it's simply some fishermen pulling in a shark they just hooked, who knows

I actually think that is why tiger sharks don't really eat Hawaiians that much, because they kind of let them eat some fish they would catch sometimes . . But in this thing's case, it is so young, it will likely never attack anybody . .
