There are people saying that if a teenager saw them in a wig like that they'd get roasted, but its literally normal in England. The only time they would wear the wigs would be in court, and there are no groups of teenagers in there to roast them, nor would they anyway, since it isn't out of the ordinary to see it at all. Its a very old part of English culture and tradition, people for hundreds of years have done it, so it isn't really weird for us as it's just been done that way for as long as everyone can remember.

An interesting aside: on very, very hot days (for london) the judge (or lead judge of the bench) in a courtroom at the royal courts of justice may say "Gentlemen, you may remove your wigs" - usually to a great sigh of relief, as the itchy, hot caps come off!

Actually yes, the fashion of wigs was introduced by a balding Louis XIV who started wearing these fancy wigs and forced his court to wear them as part of the formal court dress. From then on, wigs became standard for both men and women among European aristocrats until they fell out of fashion in the 19th century, although, as you can see, they are stil used as part of some traditional costumes.
