Wentworth Woodhouse is the largest country home in Britain, and features the largest fasade of any country house in Europe. Once as revered as Chatsworth House, when the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust acquired the property in 2017, Wentworth Woodhouse was a shadow of its former self. Derelict and abandoned, this forgotten stately home was in dire need of urgent repairs.
Now undergoing a multi-million Pound restoration, Wentworth Woodhouse is once again getting the attention it deserves, and is on track to once again becoming one of England's most loved country houses.
I was massively privileged to have been invited by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust to attend the mansion and receive an exclusive behind the scenes tour. Feeling very much like an urban explorer, what I found was a house of many contrasts, as whilst much excellent restoration work has been done, there is still a long way to go in restoring this colossal English country home.
