He was one of the greatest heroes of the Second World War. I bet you didn't know this story.
Hollywood should make a film about this man, Witold Pilecki.

@@antitiktokunion3894 well if you wanna be one in the future, then it would be very hard for you. Today we know only the history the media shows us. We don't see the full picture or we see a wrong one. The good example is about the Wermacht soldiers. Most people would said that these were devils and nazis, because germany=the bad one, allies=the liberators, the good ones. But in fact most of them were not true nazis or not at all. The true ones were in the SS and Gestapo. The Wermacht was mostly, soldiers that joined the army before hitler came to power, Teenagers from Hitlerjugent (probably spelled wrong) that just were teached how to be a soldier, german patriots that wanted to see a Germany going back to the old days of Bismarck or Kaiser, Germans in the late years just defending their homeland from the Soviets (but allies too) or the people that were manipulated by propaganda just like we are today from all the sides.

I will take this opportunity to reveal some more facts about this tragedy, also exposing to the World the vicious Soviet criminals/agents and their' plan to exterminate Polish patriots. On 8 May 1947, Pilecki was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Public Security which was headed by Stalin's "right-hand man" in Poland, Jakub Berman. Prior to trial, he was repeatedly tortured for months. The investigation of Pilecki's activities was supervised by Colonel Roman Romkowski(real name: Natan Grunspan) He was "interrogated" by Col. Jozef Rozanski(real name: Josek Goldberg), and lieutenants S. Lyszkowski, W. Krawczynski, J. Kroszel, T. Slowianek, Eugeniusz Chimczak and S. Alaborski-men who were especially infamous for their savagery. But Pilecki sought to protect other prisoners and revealed no sensitive information. Pilecki, nevertheless confided to his wife just before his murder, that Auschwitz, was a "playground" compared to the Stalinist incarceration. On 25 May 1948, Pilecki was extra-judicially murdered with a bullet to the back of the head at the Mokotow Prison in Warsaw (also known as Rakowiecka Prison), by Staff Sergeant Piotr Smietanski (who was nicknamed "The Butcher of Mokotow Prison" by the inmates). In 1968, during the political shake-up in Poland, Smietanski likely escaped to Israel as did Solomon Morel, who was guilty of atrocities committed against Polish and german civilians at the NKVD-run Zgoda camp. Polish authorities sought his extradition for several years, likewise for Helena Wolinska-Brus( born: Fajga Mindla Danielak) who "settled" in the UK at around the same time. All extradition requests were "denied". Of course, "special mention" must be made of the secret police torturer Julia "Bloody Luna" Brystiger (nee Prijs) who actually "outdid" the german Gestapo, in the torture of prisoners to almost the point of death. Those people should have been charged for the crimes committed against Poles.

This man represents the best of humanity. We all should know his story and celebrate his life. I just finished the book The Volunteer today. I'm a 54 year old man. I sobbed at the end. Thank you for this reverential video. Of all the stories WW2 can offer, Witold's is the most fundamental and important because it illustrates what one person can do in the face of true evil. He didn't win, but he died knowing the fight had been worth it...thanks again for your moving remembrance.

Many people wonder, how such great sacrifice was possible? Key to understand his motives is strong faith in God. At last meeting with his wife, he asked her to read "Imitation of Christ" to their children. All his life was to follow Jesus and all that fight for freedom was his cross he had to carry. His true legacy was given through his wife to their children.
