On this day, 60 years ago, during the March on Washington, MLK delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech to about 250,000 people. I’m not black, but there’s a power and boldness in his speeches that is so unmatched! No matter what race or ethnicity you are, this is someone who everyone should look up to and respect: a hero and a warrior!

MLK represents the true strength of the United States. No matter how much injustice there may be in this country, he represents all those people, young and old, black and white, man and woman, who hold fast to an unyielding hope that the future could be better. He represents all those people who, in the face of being told that they can't, respond with the timeless American creed: "yes we can"

@jamessaunders2559 Жыл бұрын
@@penonpaper3132 The year that hope was made in America, a time I never forgot, would ultimately serve as a reminder of how far North America as a whole and the entire world has fallen. I remembered Obama as the President that would change the world. Sadly, the change he made would never come to be realized, not in the entirety that he envisioned. The power of Greed had shown its ugly face in so many ways, we forgot that we were even looking at it to begin with. When the world had started to burn and drown itself, nobody had decided enough was enough. When Biden had started the Ukraine war, nobody batted an eye. When BLM and MeToo started, everyone knew how it would end: as a terrible tragedy for everyone involved. People learned what being toxic and cancel culture is. Corporations have been getting away with the moral equivalence of genocide even into the future because it won’t be addressed until the damage is done. Canada has now become the new Russia under Trudeau after Trump left the office and Biden becomes faced with his own creation in Ukraine. KZfaq, social media, Roblox and Netflix all dig their own graves. People forgot and still forget what it means to be themselves. The Pandemic revealed worldwide corruption from governments and private industry that manufactured vaccines. Slavery is still alive today, but it comes in forms we can even find in Canada. Racism still lives on strong throughout the world. We haven’t cured the social problems caused by modern day smart phones. We also fail to act on the information that is found about it. Social stigmatization is something that sociologists and psychologists around the world need to fight but haven’t done yet. Poorly raised children are growing up to become more than just a menace to society, but a menace to the world. These are just some of the most pressing issues that have come since and before Obama took power.

@@jamessaunders2559 You definitely have a point, but not all of them are correct, most of them had nothing to do with Obama. Russia started the Ukraine war. Canada is still a free and peaceful country, Russia is not. The vaccines worked, that's all i care about. Racism will never die. Smart phones have done more good than harm. After writing this, none of these were Obamas fault, a few are from SCOTUS, China and Russia, and the main culprit misinformation and QAnon. Politics aside, none of this was Obamas fault lol

@@OBrien-hi9zq The sixties saw assassinations, civil rights struggles, riots, a 'depraved' sexual revolution, an explosion of drug use, and a war that killed ten times the number of Americans than all the wars since. The seventies continued to fuel our decline with Watergate, the Iranian hostage crisis, the rise of terrorism, Japan's rise to economic dominance, and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. We were impotent, a paper tiger so I heard, a shadow of our former selves. Except we weren't. The predictions were wrong then, and I think they might be just as wrong now. For the sake of my grandchildren at least, I sure hope that they are.

I think preaching in a church and talking to the people he spoke to helped him with that. He wasn’t a politician speaking blindly to a crowd, he was speaking to people. Just like when he preached, he was just talking to people who had thoughts, needs, and dreams. Even as a teenager who never lived through the civil rights movement, mostly likes to stay out of politics, and disagrees with Kings entire religion, I can’t help but respect the man. A man who fought for what his people needed and didn’t hurt others in the process is one who deserves respect and recognition throughout the ages.

He didn’t pave the way for “his” people. The many brave men and women who listened to the hopeful ramblings of a rhetorically talented man from Atlanta and the people whom dared oppose the status quo paved the way for equal right for all man, not only in a backwater nation built up by 50 smaller nations, but for the entire earth. I stand with my late grandmother, a white Protestant swedish woman. She adored Michael, and so do I. She adored the brave souls who fought back against oppression at stonewall in 69, and so do I. She adored the first non white old man to be the leader of one of the mightiest nations in the world, and so do I

I heard an interview from the 90’s of a veteran who was on the USS Augusta when Truman decided to drop the bomb. He said that Truman sat down next to him, talked a bit about where the sailor was from, and weeped over his decision to drop the bomb. He did say it had to be done but agonized over the decision.

The US had to use a nuclear bomb on thousands of innocent civilians? Turning them to dust and leaving even more in agonizing torture? I doubt those poor souls would agree. We watched the evil destruction we wrought and did it a second time. I don't see it that way. It is hard as an American to take watching our state department claiming the high ground against Russia for its current actions, knowing what we did in 1945. Not to mention the countless, senseless deaths we have caused the last 30 years.

Only last week did I forward a clip of his speech to a friend while we were having a debate about the present situation in Ukraine and Russia. I’ve for many years admired that man and his warning to the USA. I’ve for many years felt heartbroken that his warning went over the heads of most who heard it. My feelings are the same for two speeches made by JFK one of which was slightly similar to IKEs but warns against infiltration by unelected people. The second reminding us that we all breath the same air and we all inhabit the same earth and therefore we must focus on our similarities not our differences.

Man, when Reagan takes the time to address the children after the Challenger disaster, it’s tough not to get teary-eyed. “I know it might be difficult to understand, but sometimes painful things happen,” is such a heartfelt explanation, and the whole event must have been a real wake-up call, so to speak, to all the kids who thought their role models were invincible. Every single speech in this video was extremely powerful. Especially MLK, Reagan’s, and Obama’s. MLK could bring you to tears of Joy in a matter of seconds, Reagan was understanding even towards the children in tough situations, and Obama was very motivational and grateful for everything. I’m glad every single person that did these speeches were alive to tell them to an audience of thousands.
