Not historic, but very entertaining. I do not believe that Commodus, would be fighting in gladiator games. He was a Roman emperor and son of Marcus Aurelius.

Yes, this is true. And although this is a really great scene. It just piles the plot up into something of the size of the Roman Coliseum itself. The very best part though is when the "emperor" pulls his dagger & Maximus grabs him by the hand & by holding his hand with the dagger in it, shoves it into his throat! And then after he dies he is reincarnated and gets to kill him again in the next life. Cuz killing an ahole never gets old. And he went to be murdered several more times by others he had killed.

Truly a great scene in a great movie. Maximus certainly frightens the Emperor by making him realize his men lied to him. Now he must face Maximus as if he has literally returned from the dead. Maximus's loyal gladiators companions gathered around him. Showing their Strength and Honour. Truly a great movie for the ages. 💪🙏🏻✨

He played the part with true depth of the character. When you can have the pain/anger in your eys while speaking.the lines the way he did. Thst is another level of acting. There is feeling put into the words as he speaks them. Talent is a understatement.

He made this straight after a wonderful film called The Insider with Al Pacino. It was about the real life coverups about the health dangers of smoking, and he played the whistle-blower, Jeffery Wigan. He aged up over 20 years and poled on three stone. It is a marvellous, deeply underrated performance and film. He should have got an Oscar for that as well. And who could forget his brilliant Bud White in LA Confidential?

Top 5 movie for me. I was 15 when this came out. Me and my buddies were too young. So we bought a ticket to another movie at the same time Gladiator was playing and ended up sneaking into Gladiator. Good ol times. Also did that with Final Destination. Lol bought a ticket to My Dog Skip and skipped out of there into final destination.

Quintas was shocked and knew he should have stayed loyal to Maximus. It was moving at the end when Quintas helped the slaves carry Maximus out of the arena.

He had mentioned to Maximus people should know when they are conquered (i.e stop fighting). Maximus had asked if he would. This scene Maximus proved his strength (to survive) and honour (to stick by his principles with his loyalty to the true emperor).
