Some time in the future, there needs to be “revisit” kind of episodes to see the growth and maturity of things. Especially this garden.

best way to enjoy a beautiful garden is.... don't hire anyone. DIY the lot. Make a ton of mistakes, waste a lot of money, break a ton of tools, do your back in, get frustrated, scrounge and scavenge materials, learn all the tricks, cementing, stonemasonry, start knowing every flower by sight, FINALLY start seeing the fruits of your labour, and THEN- many years later you can enjoy, and truly enjoy, your beautiful garden, and when surveying the masterpiece you made with blood, sweat and tears, you will thank the heavens you had the good sense to do it all by yourself and look back on how fun it actually was.

Yeah and he bought all those plants from a supermarket garden center, which 10-15x more expensive than if you were to buy from Farmers. I travel an hour once every year to a rural area to get hundreds of plants for around 50$. This guy probably spent like 300 - 400$ on those few plants.

fouad othman it’s in Medford south New Jersey. Where ever you live you can always find a rural area where you can get you plants for much cheaper than regular store or garden center.

I live in Louisiana and I just am cheap so I grabbed a shovel that the previous owners left at our house and started digging up rows and added epsom salt in those rows before I planted cheap packets of seeds. I looked around my yard for some dead leaves around my trees and found mulch underneath and just added water with my natural mulch in a bucket and then watered my garden with that. It's growing. I was given a free rabbit and now I'm going to have free fertilizer for a few years :)

This is how to make a pretty picture for a magazine. It's not realistic to think it will remain so pretty nor functional. 1. The sandpit shouldn't have garden plants on the edge as the soil and sand is bound to get mixed, and plant matter end up in the sandpit. Even if you put a cover over the sandpit when not in use, which is necessary to prevent animals pooping in it, it will still get mixed when used. The rocks are going to be annoying to remove. 2. Compost bins are better made over the soil rather than concrete to drain well, preventing smells, and benefit from the soil microbes in the ground. Putting rocks around the compost bins may make the area temporarily pretty but at the end of the day they'll end up mixed in the compost and in the garden. 3. Bamboo stakes are great for beans to climb up and look pretty but in no way are strong enough to support a mature tomato plant heavy with fruit. 4. The spacing of plants isn't designed to be productive but instantly pretty. Artichokes will get huge and choke out the competition which has been given no space to grow. Plants have been placed directly next to each other filling all the gaps, giving an instant appeal but there is no space to grow and things will compete and look terrible quickly. 5. Apart from using expensive products, they have spent money on a small farms worth of seedling trays when the space would only need a few. Spending money on stuff you don't need or don't have space for is not educational, not well thought out giving people the wrong idea as to how many they might need, and promotes unnecessary spending. Of course, gardeners see the issues here and why a magazine wants "picture perfect" in the moment. The biggest hurdle for people is watering. If you are busy you don't have time to water and nothing was done to add a system to do this, probably due to the fact it might disturb the aesthetics for the photo shoot.

Well, with all the poisons from Monsanto has been put into our veggies, even babies are are getting it from traces in breast milk and many governments would sooner line their pockets than worry about us being poisoned. I'm a city girl but It's time now that we are planting a garden too. It's the smart thing to do in these times. I also read that $1 in seeds turns into $70. in food. Now how can you beat that? :)
