Judson’s first experience with (Anesthesia)-Pulling Teeth from ‪@metallica‬’s Kill Em All
Richard’s shirt - ‪@AcraniusSlam‬
Judson’s dobro intro:
‪@benharper‬ - “Paris”
We use ‪@rodemic‬ microphones and headphones.
We are not sponsored by them, we just genuinely enjoy their equipment.
IN FACT, ‪@rodemic‬ probably doesn’t even know we exist. 😂

Cliff is one of the main users of the Morley Power Wah Fuzz from the 70s. Its a really unique pedal that allows you to use it as a volume, blend between fuzz/clean, wah, or fuzz and wah. It also runs off AC since it has a transformer in it. The way the pedal was contolled was very different from other wah pedals, that typically use a linear toothed gear that rolls a potentiometer. The morley pedals use a light detecting resistor (LDR) in order to conrol the effect. A light from a car dashboard which doubles as the on/off indicator, is mounted at the back of the pedal. When you move the treadle it moves a shroud over the the LDR to control the resistance the same way a pot does in other pedals. Its a very unuqie pedal that really shaped cliffs sound and to this day is a bit of a holy grail for bass gear nerds.

I was about to recommend it aswell ! The cover is by Scott Pingel and is as epic as the way he made it to SM2 (there is an interview on how he made it from the idea to the live performance on metalupyourpodcast)

Key thing when trying to recreate Cliff's sound, you must run your distortion BEFORE the wah. Then your shit will scream like a demon being ass raped by Cliff Burton. The version of this by Scott Pingle on the S&M2 album is ridiculous. I can't watch it without being left sobbing. Cliff Burton, what a fucking loss. Glad I got to see him do this live a few times before his untimely death.

this realization that the wash of feedback and distortion etc between notes, slides, pulls all of that is MUSIC, it's part of the loud styles of music to get lost in the maelstrom, then harness the lightning and pull it back towards something is so key to getting and loving this kind of shit. Judson gets it all, what sensitive ears. And Cliff, from the grave, transferred his message 100% once again. Through the mists and the haze, trying to bring the message to YOU

I heard this solo for the first time 41 years ago, blew me away and confused the hell out of me at the same time. Loved it then , love it now just as much...just seems really weird not launching into Whiplash, I tend to view them as the same song but maybe that's my mistake. Great choice gents...and to Judson...don't forget John Scofield, a key component (admittedly occasionally!) to the awesome Medeski Martin Wood groove , and probably the coolest guitar player around for the last 50 years. Again Gents, you're knockin' it out of the park with these vids...keep it up and stay happy, sane and centered. Thanks.

You guys checked them out and didn't seem to know what to make of them, but I highly encourage you to try them out again. "Brännmärkt" is the song you should check out, really hits on all the elements that make them special.

Love how you're describing that string slide sound - Cliff played his bass with gains at what other guitarists describe as 'Fire-Breathing' levels. I first heard this describing Randy Rhodes' style - That he somehow mastered a guitar that screamed at the lightest touch and managed to draw a full range of dynamics out of an instrument that should, by all rights, ONLY be producing a cacophony of noise. Cliff distilled that same mastery of touch of his instrument, drawing out the full dynamic range from something that should be so sensitive it ONLY produces noise.

Agree with the drums.. however, that’s the pulling teeth. The in your face crashing drums. The open section is as the anesthesia starts to kick in, middle section is drifting off, and the drums is pulling teeth. It’s meant to be jarring.

Cliff and Steve Harris taught me how to play bass (indirectly). Love playing along to this (clean) but give up when the drums come in because they dominate far too much. This live version is perfect for that tho: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aNGUiK1ms6fShJc.html ok, the drums dominating isn't the reason why I give up that part.. far too fast with the effects that I don't have, sounds silly to play and I can't tap a 6-string bass that accurately
