You aren't being told the truth by hiking content creators.
Ulterior motives in the form of monetary gain apparently now outweigh the motivation to tell people the truth. Whenever I find myself researching equipment all I end up doing is wasting my time - not because I don't know what to look for - but because real, honest reviews are hard to come by.
From my perspective as an aspiring creator this trend initially affected my perspective and goals. It seems there is a message being hurled at creators that "to be successful on social media you need to make money". This is harmful not only to the creative, but to you - the audience.
When I'm in the market to buy something I want to be told the truth about a product. I don't want to listen to a 10 minute advertisment disguised as a KZfaq video...
Obviously not all sponsorships are bad, I respect the creator who doesn't sell their voice to every brand that approaches them - these are the kinds of people whose advice you can take on board.
There are those who still have morals, and finding these kinds of creators shouldn't be as difficult as it is. Quite frankly I'm sick of the dishonesty across all of social media, not just outdoor content. This video is mostly a rant but I've tried to throw in some insight into how to avoid the shills.
Needed to get this out there as it's made me rethink why I make videos.
