Thanks for the video! I'm a Greek living abroad and I can tell you for sure that the Nescafe sold around Europe (I don't know about Canada) is certainly different from the Nescafe we have back home when it comes to making a frappe. The Greek one makes a thick layer of foam at the top, while the rest don't, no matter how long you shake it. The difference is that the Greek variant is freeze-dried, while the rest are spray-dried.

Dude, loved your Crete videos. I lived there for 8 years when I was in US Air Force back in 80s. The base was outside of Heraklion and closed 1993. I returned in 2018 and hooked up with my Greek friends. It was awesome>. Cretans are different from Northern Greece.I'm glad you enjoyed.

Our FreshCo stores in Manitoba carry some Greek items. Jarred: honey, oregano, olives peppers etc. Canned: dolmadakia, gigantes etc. Also frozen 7days brand tiropitakia and spanakopitakia that are almost as good as mom’s. Sobers grocery has carried Greek mitzithra, not sure if they still do as We have Greek Market and a couple of Italian stores that carry Greek cheeses and products. The Skinos masticha liqueur is very good, a friend bought a bottle for me from LCBO in Ontario.

Love all the goodies. This haul reminds me of my childhood when we would travel to Italy to visit family, we (my mom) would always do a big food haul to bring back home to Canada. Our luggage smelled of cheese, spices and cured dried meats. Great video.

In Vitina they make thick vanilla honey from fir tree, you should try it. Another sugar preserve you might like over greek strained yogurt, is carrot. You can find the recipe online.

next time try to get "vanillya". It resembles a gooey melted marshmallow in a jar, you spoon it out and plop it into a cold glass of water so it stays stiff and have it with Greek coffee . When you finish you get to drink the water which was infused with the strong vanilla flavor.

I have a suitcase that comes back just like yours, LOL! I contacted Frito Lay trying to find the oregano chips and they said they're only available regionally in Greece. BUMMER! I did not run across the tzatziki ones so I'll be keeping my eye out next year!

Depends where it’s hard to get in my area and I have not seen yogurt in the clay pots I think that’s pretty cool . Nor have I seen the Mastika in a liqueur store maybe in a speciality shop. But half the fun is finding stuff over there and enjoying the experience :) thanks for watching !!

Balklava is at least 3000 year old before Christ recipe. It was invented in Crete during Minoan Civilazation. It’s original name was Gastrin or Kopti out of the act of cutting it to small pieces. An ancient Athenian author named Athinaios wrote a book named Deipnosofistes or dinner sophists in which he quoted the recipe as described by another even more ancient gastronomy author named Xrysippos Tyaneys.

@@THEFOODDEE also if you love greek food there's a man in St. Albert that owns an olive grove in Greece. His olive oil won the top gold award in NYC. Look up Pillar Grove Estate. They sell it at the italian centre. I don't know why the greek shop doesn't carry it.
