I've been reading a lot about the pronunciation of Koine Greek vs modern, and I've been persuaded that the pronunciation of today's Greek is extremely close, if not the same, to what it was back during the Koine days. Apparently, the Greek language has changed at a much, much slower pace over the centuries compared to other Indo-European languages. It's very interesting. I've been loving studying both Koine and modern Greek at the same time, all the while noticing all the similarities between the two.

These videos are great but I’d like to ask a question Why did you yes «μην» instead of « δεν» for don’t, when αργήσεις is from a verb ? Thanks again
@EasyGreekVideos
@EasyGreekVideos 2 жыл бұрын
«Μην αργήσεις» means "don't be late." Μην Is used for negative commands, and verbs after it are formed in the subjunctive. «Δεν αργήσεις» (you are not late) is incorrect, the correct form is «δεν αργείς», in the indicative.

In case you still want to know, it's because "many people" in the Greek sentence is singular. "Κόσμος" is a singular masculine word meaning "the people" or "the world" or "the crowd". So when referring to "ο κόσμος", the singular form of the verb, "μένει" is used

It's transliteration of the Greek with Latin letters. I would prefer it not be there, please. It's not the way I would spell it and anyway it's not needed because we can here you say it. No need to write it the way it sounds. You could save yourselves a lot of trouble by just leaving it off. I should say I did love it and found it very helpful. I hope you have more at this level. I just came from a video that Greekpod101 calls "absolute beginner" fbb it is not, this is. Ευχαριστώ πολύ!
@dorothywardwell2397
@dorothywardwell2397 3 жыл бұрын
@@InnerProp For me, it’s actually a really helpful tool because it suits my learning process and makes it much easier for me to begin with Greek. When I see it written down with the Latin characters, I find it easier to memorise and I can hear the pronunciation in my head. With the Greek alphabet I find it much harder to separate it from other words so I can never remember the pronunciation! I’m so glad they put it on, it’s very considerate of them to include something they didn’t need to include for the sake of others understanding. Each to their own, I guess! Better to have a tool there so each person can choose whether it is relevant rather than never offer it in the first place because some people don’t want it. Good for you that you are able to get by without it, you sound like you’re doing very well, I wish you the best with your language learning :)
@michaeltirentive4718
@michaeltirentive4718 8 ай бұрын
@@InnerProp it actually could be more helpful, if it was transcription and not transliteration. Some people have already learned that "nt" is pronounced as "d", but keeping "nt" in the captions makes it a little longer to process.

Yes. We often use κι when then next word begins with a vowel for fluidity. So, instead of e.g. ke esy, it sounds more like "kyesy", as one. But if you use και instead of κι in these contexts it's also perfectly fine.
