I spent 6 very happy hours in this museum and would go again in a heartbeat. What a treasure trove! As for the jewelry, it’s incredible what survives! I can’t understand why it is so hard to find replicas of ancient jewelry. Some of the most beautiful ornaments I’ve ever seen - far more beautiful than most jewelry today!

I found out I was Greek by researching my roots... My Great Grand Father was from Sicily (*and he had Greek roots - his grandmother was Greek...) and ironically his last name was La Greca (*which means the Greek in Italian) I was in pleasant shock - and was shocked that I went back several hundred years! love this so much! thank you!

I’m a Greek American, we’re not sure how we got the Italian name Perroti/Perrotis, but we know our family originated in Kalamata. I really enjoyed this video, but I think everyone will, Greek or not. No culture or civilization has ever had such a profound influence on all later ones like the Hellenic (Greek) one, up to and including those of the present day. Rome was almost as influential, but they modeled their entire culture on that of the Hellenes. My native, US-English, language actually has more Hellenic vocabulary than Anglo-Saxon. Greek ideas, institutions and aesthetics permeate the entire modern world. Long live Hellas!
