Being a Londoner born and raised. Oscar Isaac English accent in Moon Knight is spot on for a soft spoken Londoner. He drops the vowels in all the right places and his usage of English / British euphemisms is spot on. The voice coach he used really got him to speak proper London accent so well, if he didn't use a voice coach he's learned London accent very well.

I especially loved Steven's reply to Harrow's goading after being kidnapped in episode 2: Harrow: Do you think Konshu made you his avatar because your mind would be so easy to break, or because you were already broken? Steven with a V: I'm not broken... I just need some help, maybe... Like, Steven barely knows what's happening with his health, and yet he knows he isn't broken like abeliest society says he is. He knows he's strong and worthy, even in a terrifying life and death situation with an angry Egyptian god and a cult leader threatening him with death. I guess the first movie I saw him in was Drive, but his singing role in Inside Llewyn Davis was the one that firmly put him in the American pop culture consciousness. A Most Violent Year was also very good. Ex-Machina showed his talents in a different way, showing his range. Since then, he's been hired by Star Wars and Marvel, so he's hardly just getting more recognition now... He's truly made it, as a performer. I just hope that he doesn't get lazy-- like another incredible talent, Robert Downey Jr. did-- and just cash in on comic book movies that don't challenge him to show off his real talent. I want to keep seeing him do weird and wild roles like the creep in Ex-Machina.

I love Stephen and Oscar making this point. I hate when people auto-magically deride superhero movies as not being cinema or being emotionally cheap because they are big budget movies. They might not be as deep or complex as some other movies but there are characters and stories there that people connect with and love and that hundreds of people put their creative effort into.

AGREED. People talk about superhero movie fatigue, but what I love is the character-driven stories and the important issues tackled, while also being hella fun to watch. The fact that it's a superhero story is secondary for me (though it's always fun to discover each character's powers).
@Gildedmuse
@Gildedmuse 2 жыл бұрын
I don't even like 80% of action movies - they're a very, very visual genre and I am not a very visual person - but Superhero POs are the exception. While they often have simplified narratives, people don't seem to realize that this is often/sometimes the result of them having very character-heavy stories. The Iron Man franchise is a wonderful multimillion dollar example of this: each film is very much about Tony's character growth, and the villains and powers typically serve as fantastical outwards representations of what's going on inside the character. Wandavision was brought up as a TV example, but I would also throw out Jessica Jones, Buffy, and Xena. All of them are, to some degree or another, sold as action shows, but their real focus is on character, with the powers functioning almost metaphorically. Which is why sometimes you will get fans complaining because a character's powers are inconstant, or why do they happen to lose power at this particular point, without acknowledging that what built to that moment is often more mental/emotional than a straight forward action plot. The powers are made to serve the story, instead of being the only point of the story. That might not be for everyone, of course, but some of us really appreciate when the character's own story is at the forefront.

They've been done yet they remain a rich source for material. My sophomore year English teacher told my class that if we wanted to understand western culture we needed two things: a dictionary of Greek mythology and a Bible. Everything in western culture is based on these two sources. Everything from Spielberg and Tolkien have biblical roots, for example. Only in recent years have we in the west branched out a bit into Egyptian, Japanese, and Norse cultural material with things like Star Gate, Dragonball, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The vast majority however remains based in either Greek myth or the Bible.

But I absolutely agree with you. You know, I always thought the titan war would be An amazing movie or tv series. @Kilo Mintoni Well it is you can clearly see some Christian influences in his writing prose and some references, but it’s also most certainly influenced by polytheistic religions (namely the Greeks and Norse) however tbh just because an idea takes influence from something doesn’t mean they will look at all similar or even be related. Especially with the level of detail Tolkien put into his myths and gods I would say he made his own thing.

When Oscar was a kid, all his family were huge Star Wars fans who held yearly costume parties to celebrate the movies (I'm not kidding). He was thrilled to be cast in The Force Awakens. But by the time all was said and done, he was so disgusted with the franchise that he told one interviewer he wished Poe had died in that tie fighter crash. He might have said something similar to Colbert if Colbert hadn't kept steering him away from the subject. Still, Oscar got in a few subtle jabs like the "screw Star Wars" line.

I KNEW he'd screw Star Wars, because Star Wars screwed him and all of us!! And you can always count on that long term commitment from Marvel.

Sometime, why not analyse Chet Baker, as a singer, in his younger years? Tony Bennett would also be a great subject, given his unusual phrasing. I do realise you have enough ideas of your own, without our assistance, but one can always try.
