What can Buddhism teach us about living simply, being happy with less and loving nature?
For the second in our 2022 Spring series of Green Books we were joined by Ajahn Sucitto, a Buddhist monk.
His book, ‘Buddha-Nature, Human Nature’ is an extensive and detailed exploration of the relationship between the ‘human’ and the ‘natural’ world. It is about the environmental crisis and how that is mirrored in the human crisis that the Buddha addressed in his teachings, revealing ways of resolving this.
Ajahn Sucitto is part of the Thai Forest lineage of direct practice which draws strength from an austere lifestyle lived in forests and remote places. Now based at Cittaviveka Monastery in Chithurst, West Sussex, where he was the Abbot for 22 years, Ajahn (which means spiritual teacher) has been teaching for 40 years as well as writing over 15 publications and leading meditation retreats around the world.
For more information, his books and teachings visit www.ajahnsucitto.org or consult www.cittaviveka.org for videos and information about visiting the monastery.
Date of event: Tuesday 7th April 2022

The concept of cultivating parami( rafters to navigate the currents( oghas) of life) is so important. This short life what is in our mind we associate, triggered by, accompanied by. If one has a lot of greed, anger eyc , unwholesome emotions that is your lot, underlying bed of the mind. If wholesome emotions are cultivated , the short life mind moments are compromised by these. Only goodness will drive you towards this kind of life and they are the people who are really wealthy, but this wealth is not seen but felt by those people.

Does anybody know if Ajahn Sucitto eats animals? I can't express enough how much I appreciate his feeling in inclusion. I believe in God and I know the Buddhist tradition may not agree with with own experience, but not for one moment did I ever feel outside of Ajahn Sucittos lovig heart. The Dharma truly is a unifying force.

I visited Harnham which is the same Theravada Buddhism '' the understanding is that the monks eat that which is offered not chosen ' so yes they eat pork and meat chicken etc '' as a vegertarian I found it uncomfortable as compassion cannot express itself in full whilst these beings are eaten and obviously killed '

@@david9180 Thank you very David for your response. What you said it quite similar to my experience of feeling the connection of life that runs through all living beings. Thank you again.

... the thing not mentioned here is the fasting the Theras do. Changes the organism utterly every which way. Highly regulating of the organism. Yoshinori didnt get a Nobel for autophagy research for nowt.
