Hampton Roads Virginia's Greenbrier Mall was once a vibrant and active shopping center that has become another dead mall with more vacant stores than active ones and anchor tenants such as Sears moving out. I lived in Chesapeake, VA from 2003-2013 and this mall had constant traffic and hosted many community events and has now been sentenced to a slow death.

I’m very attached to this mall, it’s where I had my first kiss, it’s where I had my first job (Chick Fil a) and it’s where I used to go and walk around when I needed to clear my head. I’m sad to see it go. Thank you for posting this to let me go down memory lane.

It's crazy. I lived in Chesapeake for the first 7 years of my existence, and it was always packed. Had a lot of great memories there.

Grew up literally always in the mall heavy when the mall use to actually pop 2000s-2011 this mall use to be packed..... my dad use to take me here when I was little alot once I became a teenager 2010-2012 was steady in the mall with my friends walking the mall a million times with them just with $20 lol that would get me food court food and enough to see a movie now $20 don't get you nothing but a Keychain.....😂 recently went to mall and it was dead just like the video all the malls are at this point

Malls are becoming less popular because many of them have a lack of stores. A lot of national retailers are scaling back store count because they feel that they can make up the revenue with online shopping. There also has been more outdoor retail centers that have opened in the last 20 years that have increased competition. But honestly having an indoor mall is a real asset when its raining or freezing outside. I think at some point malls will undergo a renaissance due to practical reasons even if on a smaller scale. Not to mention only certain mall owners such as Simon or Brookfield are successful right now. Greenbrier mall is still in a very busy corridor that would definitely support the mall if it still had a balanced retail mix.
