Greenland should have been called Iceland and Iceland should have been called Greenland.

The reason Iceland is called that despite being very green is because when the Vikings arrived it was winter and the country was covered in ice and snow just like Greenland. Greenland was called Greenland in an attempt to encourage settlers.

Not really Hrafna flóki named Iceland, Iceland cause he saw the fjords here covered in Ice, Iceland was already settled when Eiríkur Rauði went to find Greenland when he was banished from Iceland. Why he called it Greenland Ive heard multiple stories, either tricking people to come there as life on Iceland was harsh, or since the climate was warmer it really was alot more green atleast where he first settled. But idk too much about Greenland.
