Greg and Jan discuss winter grazing techniques, why leaving forage is good. By constantly keeping your livestock moving, they are always on clean ground. Your goal is to keep them grazing, not making mud and also leaving the manure behind them. By leaving forage behind, you have another rotation you can make on your farm in the winter dormant season.

Guess when you’re told to do something, you do it. I think it’s awesome Jan is out doing things with you. Makes it easier and much more enjoyable when your spouse is not just on board but on task. Even willing to set on the hood just to make it a few more miles down the road. That was a cool story!

Nothing like knowing you have winter stockpile! Way better than looking out at an empty short cut field when you have animals to feed!

Love so many things about this video. Mainly focused around Jan. Jan thanks for leading Greg's discussion to a level us newbies can begin to wrap our heads around the whole process. Jan thanks for being such a wonderful example of a true helpmeet. Where would Greg be without you? Where would those of us trying to learn be without the 2 of you?

Thanks for the video! It was nice yesterday but the snow is falling now. We might get 4-12 inches depending on where it goes. I will take 4” of snow. It’s a heavy wet snow. It’s staying around 32-34 degrees F. I just got more bales yesterday. I’m hoping that will last me until end of March. I’m hoping by then my cover crops will start to take off. This will be the third year of cover crops. It’s been reseeding itself. It’s starting to get really thick so it might be hard to grow on how dense it is. I think this might be my last year of cover crops reseeding itself and I’m hoping to roll mature grass hay bales over the ground to reseed it in using the grass seed in the round bales.

I keep an eye on the weather you guys get (closest town on iPhone weather app is Kearney, hope that’s right) and goodness have you got some cold headed your way. Daily HIGHS of -17*C! I really feel for you and your livestock, and it only reinforces the admiration I have for the work you’re doing on your patch of this Earth.

We just got done moving fence after almost 24 hours of freezing rain. I know you have had similar weather to us. No-one wants to shoot videos of the moving fence in those conditions then the resulting 3 hours of untangling poly wire per reel cause it wrapped around the crank. or the sludge pit around the water tank. Just keeping it real.
