The idea Greg pitched about essentially creating a review in progress video journal that gets edited together and posted after the embargo lifts is actually really cool and something I would watch. That’s the kind of interesting twist on an idea for content I’ve always enjoyed from KF and could even lead to stronger review discussions. My fav KF game reviews are always the ones where they clearly had time to prepare their thoughts and develop them in advance like TLoU2.

They should've made the Suicide Squad go on a mission to extract / steal something for Waller, and the Big Bad throughout the mission is Batman. Along the way, you'd fight "mini-bosses" like Red Robin, Red Hood, Nightwing etc. With Batman as the final boss. THAT would've printed money while showing what it's like for villains facing Batman et al.

Here is what I like about Suicide Squad in Singleplayer - in terms of traversal, all the characters feel different. And that is why playing Solo is actually better than multiplayer. If I get a bit tired of flying around as Deadshoot, I jump over to King Shard who can jump over buildings and it is just a lot of fun. Or I teleport around as Boomerang. I like doing this during combat. Manouvering around your enemies and using the right buttons to get rid of your enemies. And I guess the combat either clicks with you or not. If it does not, it will probably not change later in the game. Also, you get bonuses for playing specific characters in specific missions, giving you a reason to switch it up. What I noticed negatively though, and what is probably going to be the biggest criticism, is the repetitive missions. So I get that. But as long as I enjoy the traversal and combat and the story, the positive outweighs the negative for me. I have not fought any bosses yet, so I hope they do something unique there to change it up.

28:50 So far, my thing is. Avengers had so many bugs and game breaking issues at launch that it delayed both their scheduled content updates AND the “next-gen” ports. From PS5 launch day to some time in March a full 4 months later. “Taking Aim” was supposed to be out in October adding Kate Bishop and a continuation of the story, then a new playable character and content update every month until Black Panther. Which on paper already sounded insane. By the looks and sounds of it. Suicide Squad doesn’t have this issue. It’s launching when it means to, it doesn’t have any glaring issues or major bugs that override their content output (aside from the unfortunately typical sever issue), and what they’ve planned for the launch window is a feasible amount of content to deliver with in the coming weeks. So, it’s entirely possible that their scheduled content updates actually stay on track and arrive on time in February. Instead of repeating history.

Im excited to mainly experience the story solo in Suicide Squad. It is fun to traverse as Captain Boomerang and I dont mind some mindless combat against enemies probably cause I have a very busy family life so this stuff appeals to me to unwind at the end of a busy day. Also with all the future dlc with new playable characters and locations being free and you can revist at your leisure fits my lifestyle cause even if I wait until a few expansions/seasons are out later in the year, it might be nice to circle back for a weekend binge play and not have to worry about trying to keep up with stuff like Destiny where once certain content or events leave, then you cant access it.

Bless makes a great point about games business, and thats why we need to start making smaller games with less budget that don't take 5 to 10 years to make. We need to lower the stakes and make the bets safer.

Games like Remnant II that sit in the high-end AA to low end AAA spot feel like where the industry needs to shift. 3 year dev time with a core team of about 50 people and a relatively small budget (I think around 50mil?). The reason that game was so quick to turn around with such a relatively small team and budget isn’t because the gameplay lacks polish, or there isn’t a lot of content, or the visuals are low quality, no, it’s because they focused only on the things that matter. Remnant II doesn’t have ridiculously expensive QTE set pieces that you play once. It doesn’t have overproduced and unnecessarily flashy menus. It doesn’t have a bunch of mini-games, there’s no bike riding side dungeons, or moments where you play as one of the monster bosses for a 10 minute sequence. All of that kind of stuff bloats game budgets and development times. Remnant II focuses on being a third person shooter with souls-like elements and randomized world maps. It does what it does really well and because of their limited development resources, it doesn’t try to do anything more than that. Ended up being one of the better games I played last year because of that tight focus while still delivering highly polished gameplay, visuals, systems and an interesting world.

People also need to get comfortable paying more. People were fine paying full price for an 8-12 hour campaign years ago, why does everyone now look at “dollar per hour”? $70 for a 10 hour campaign with adequate replay value NEEDS to (re-)become normalized.
@lucask9651
@lucask9651 6 ай бұрын
@@NickBLeaveIt That would not work, 70 Plus is already a lot and the market can't bear another increase. The ideas you mention are not bad though, however, i think that's just Spider Man 2, a short amazing game for a premium price, but it costs 200+ million.

@blackcephie1800
@blackcephie1800 6 ай бұрын
@@NickBLeaveIt well again, the price point doesn't need to shift if the industry shifts to smaller games. Paying 70 bucks per game still doesn't justify decade long dev periods and hugely inflated budgets. The greed alone is far too damaging.

I Find it odd how everyone thinks that rocksteady didn’t wanna make this game when everything indicates that they wanted to make a multiplayer shooter. I can understand Greg’s stance on the repetitiveness but I’m finding the traversal and shooting is fun. The core mechanics are great. The story is also great. I don’t see how you can like the division and hate this. As Someone who poured 300 hours into avengers this already feels more varied in terms of missions. Is it a breaking game or is it Arkham level of influence? No, but it’s pretty solid. Also, it is so much fun with friends.

Every1 makes fun of Activision for being the cod company but it made sense from a monetary standpoint. So sadly ubisoft moving that direction wouldn't be surprising.
@GC-ps9mn
@GC-ps9mn 6 ай бұрын
You can tell with this game that the mechanics and story was already set before the execs decided it had to be a GaaS. This game doesnt make sense at all as a GaaS. The map traversal also has an interesting contrast with Spider-Man. In both games you often had to traverse across the map to get to the next story mission. However with Spiderman when you would see a side quest or enemy faction along the way you'd want to stop to engage with it because the gameplay was so enjoyable. It was also about getting into the role of Spider-Man (at least for me), if spiderman was on his way to go do something else and he saw a crime happening of course he would stop what he was doing to go intervene. It sounds like with Suicide Squad that side stuff isn't worth engaging with so it's best just to run past it.

I disagree with Bless arguement about deciding which way to go when deciding a game. Single player games have been & still continue to be a safe bet even if you started developing 7 yrs ago. Good single player games sell well & I'd argue continue to have more longevity with sales over time then failing live service pump & dumps. I think lifetime sales of the Arkham games would support that. This stinks of you don't just want some money, you want ALL the money. I'll also disagree with Greg saying layoffs are happening because of failed bets with development vision. No layoffs are happening because high ups see AI tools as a way to cut costs in development aswell as increase positive shareholder sentiment.
