One of Kurt Cobain's favorites, very thoughtful film, if kids have nothing to do or anyplace to go, they will get into trouble, and that's usually where drugs and petty vandalism happen. Meanwhile if an underage club happens, the cops freak out, because, just like the tiny "rec center" in this film, the kids are harassed, because, the cops think anytime kids have a place to go, they figure there's drugs involved.

Agree. One of my favorites, as I was 15 when it came out.

The Wanderers, we now know, was underrated and a great film. The passing of Linda Manz (Pee Wee) two weeks ago makes this a good time to revisit this classic film.

Over The Edge is an overlooked masterpiece!! Growing up in the late 70's early 80's in what we called a bedroom community my friends and I had some of the same issues. Simi Valley is an offshoot of the Valley and Los Angeles where our parents moved to to escape issues of the city. Much like the community of New Granada in the film the adults never planned an infrastructure for the youth, drugs and alcohol ran rampant along with teenage sex. Still we had fun and it never even came close to the events of Over The Edge, Simi Valley by the way never really has overcome these issues it's tried but being between The Valley and Thousand Oaks it kind of remains a little bedroom community.

Love to see these old episodes of Siskel and Ebert. I remember seeing“Over the Edge” on HBO as a kid, but never got to actually watch the film until a few years ago as an adult. So exciting to see what Ebert has to say about the film. Thank you for uploading

I loved Over the Edge. Always have been a Matt Dillon fan. I was 15 years old when the movie came out. So I could relate to it quite well then. Still holds up in my book. I always seemed to agree with Roger's likes on movies. Gene seemed to look at them from an adult point of view, and you cant do that with teenage movies.

I love Agatha especially for Vanessa Redgrave's beautiful performance.

I would also tack on the Ebert penned "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" just wild!

Over the Edge made Matt Dillon a star (or maybe got him the role in The Outsiders that made him a star).

I saw this video in 2019. Thanks to cable movie networks and streaming services, I have already seen all but two of them. Have faith, people. Give movies a chance.

Funny thing about Over the Edge: When you're a teenager, you're on the side of the teens in that movie. Then if you watch it again in your 30s and 40s, when you have kids of your own, you can see the adults' side of things. Now that I'm dragging fifty, I realize that both the adults and the kids in that movie did terrible things that brought about the whole disaster at the end. The only character in that movie that I've never changed my perspective on is Doberman. He's always an asshole.

These videos are so quiet that I can't even hear them at all unless I hook it up to my very fucking powerful stereo. On the headphones, on the blue tooth, nothing. On the solid state pioneer from 1979 it's audible. My hearing is perfect and so is my childrens, for christ sakes, pull the audio, amplify it, and swap it. KZfaq allows that.

I'm not saying The Wanderers is bad, but it's way less good than The Warriors which these two panned on release. Always good to see Over the Edge get notice - Kurt Cobain's favorite movie!
@ronaldh84464 жыл бұрын
Apples and oranges. The only common aspect of those movies is that there were gangs in them. They're both excellent in their own, distinctive ways. In Ebert's written review of Walter Hill's "Southern Comfort" a few years later he was starting to reconsider his initial negative reaction to The Warriors.

ive always loved The Wanderers. but The Warriors is literally my all time favorite film. doesnt make every other good film less good. over the edge was always an awesome film too. as far as what you were saying, i cant believe they BOTH liked the swamp thing, but Roger didnt like The Wanderers.

Johnny Skinwalker well, all of them would be extremely dated now so there’s really no point in watching them. But I did think Over the Edge was great as a teen. Probably wouldn’t like it as much as a parent lol
@johnnyskinwalker40954 жыл бұрын
@@dreamweaver1603 it's a situation where I'm sure they were all mostly well made, well acted and well written but none of them jump at me as something that I would feel compelled to see. You don't go to theaters for them or rent them or stream them. But if they appear in late night movies on regular TV, I would watch. Most of the time the best discoveries happen this way. I may be inclined to catch the beginning of the Agata Christy one for instance.
@NovaFeedback19794 жыл бұрын
@@dreamweaver1603 What makes something "dated" that it can't be watched today. Does that mean anything coming out today will automatically be watchable 40 years later. The best art endures no matter how old it gets. I haven't seen Over the Edge, but the trailer makes it look cool to me.
