This Vietnam veteran just lost his well pressure 4 days ago no water and a young electrician came to my home today and discovered exactly what you revealed the problem was. He didn't want to do the work that you suggested to do but I will find someone who will and hopefully there is smart as you are and they won't charge me a body part that doesn't work anymore. Thank you and God bless and Semper Fi from this Vietnam combat veteran

Thank you for sharing this. Made my life easy today when our water stopped flowing. This is a 30 - 45 minute fix. One tip I learned though, look inside the cover to determine which pressure switch you need. They come in 20 - 40, 30 -50, or 40 - 60. I had to make 2 trips to Lowes which luckily wasn't too bad.

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. My switch has needed resetting a few times in past day so I'm guessing it might need replacing. I'm thinking first I might try cleaning the points with a little sand paper. Your instructions are very clear thankyou again.

Great Job!!! One of the best KZfaq "fix it yourself" posts I have seen. Covered all the points clearly and concisely. The one comment I would add is to test your voltage indicator (or meter) on a live connection first to verify it is working! Thanks again, and I loved the deer licks!

I really appreciate your video. I had an electrician from a company come screw my house up, and claim my pump had gone bad during the time he put a new panel in. I knew he had screwed up wiring because there wasn't the right voltage getting to the switch or pump. He claimed it was the pump, then the switch. I replaced the old one with this kind, but still with not enough voltage, didn't make a difference. But I didn't know about what to do with the new one having the switch. I suffer brain damage and I forget how to do things and even worse I question myself so badly that I don't want to try because of not being able to remember. But having something I can compare what I do, and have it as if someone's there with me talking me through it, helps a whole lot. Thanks.

I have four well pumps on my farm and all have the "low pressure cutoff" style switch (with the little manual lever). Normally, the switch will kick on the pump when the pressure drops. However, if this fails due to the well running dry, and the pressure continues to drop to near zero, the low-pressure cutoff will shut down the switch and won't turn on again until the lever is moved to start position. This saves the pump motor from overheating or dry seals burning from the pump running fruitlessly non-stop. Worth the extra few dollars for the LPC pressure switch by far. However, if you have a blackout or cut power to the pump, that the pump may have to be manually started at the PS if the pressure had dropped in the meantime (due to leaks, livestock tank filling, or someone flushed the toilet).

Just a helpful tip, once you put on the teflon tape, put some wet pipe dope on the tape to lubricate it. That will prevent the tape from shredding and coming off. I liked your simple tip about putting wire on the left of the screw. These are all little things that professionals remember after learning the hard way.

Great guide. The only thing i saw that was different for my experience doing it, was the wire colors. For me the colors go Black, white, white, then black again. Other than that, everything you showed was accurate. For a side note, when putting on the new switch, make sure you do not over tighten it. Also if its in a weird position, sometimes it helps if you screw it on some and then put the wire on it, then finish screwing it on tight. Main thing tho is make sure the power it off.
@underourrock
@underourrock Жыл бұрын
On a 230v AC Motor, one wire is Hot L1, the other wire is Hot L1, and the third wire is ground. The having the colors change at the pressure switch won't hurt anything as long as it is just L1 and L2 that get flipped. Ideally, you would have a pair of wires the same color on the left and the other color would be the pair on the right on the pressure switch in the video. It doesn't hurt anything if the colors are wrong as long as they end up going to the right places. Just properly wired would mean they are matched up and then go to L1 and L2 on the motor. The other way of saying it: the motor doesn't care if you have the two power wires hooked up to L1 and L2 or reversed as L2 as and L1... It'll work the same either way on my a 230v AC Motor. Usually you wouldn't use white at all for 230v electrical, install preferring red and black for L1/L2.

Thanks for a jam up job explained how to do it properly.....just one thing you may want to add, I just replaced a presure switch and it was fried beyond recognition! Meaning I couldnt tell which wire was hooked where. I had to guess at wire placement. It literally looked like it was in a house fire. Im not sure if I did it right even though the well pump works and delivers water to the home, I would like to see proper wire placement to compare what I have installed. Submersibe with 230 volt 3 wire. Thanks for your fine video!! Dan

Just commenting - - !) Replace pressure switch regularly by checking it for burnt points, etcetera. every year or so. 2) After turning off electricity & checking for live voltage, never intentionally touch the wiring. That is a bad habit to watch out for. Do clean the wire tips with sandpaper. 3) Make a hook on the pump wiring with a needle nose pliers to get a more contact & secure connection to the holding screw. 4) Always try to do some 'upgrading' when working to replace the switch. 'Upgrading like cleaning up the immediate area from dirt, debris with brush, rags, or vacuum. And replacing that little connecting pipe at the PS. Just saying.

Comments are good on improperly installed wire at terminal and no grommet. However as for replacing this entire switch, if there is nothing really wrong with it, I'd I'm old school, and would file the points with a needle file. You don't even have to remove them in this case, the gap is pointing right at you. I used to file the points on my 1965 VW. I've filed the points on my compressors, tablesaw switch, and my wife's Maytag washer control switch.
