Sorry its been a while but the house move went pear shaped big time. Who in their right mind would sell a house these days, but there may be light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully!
So this build has been plodding along for many weeks and it may show. I'm not one for spending months on a build because I loose interest so easily.
Thanks to the people who have stuck and believed in the channel I thank you all 👍😎
The 1/76 scale cars come from the Oxford Automobile Company.

I built this for a good friend a few years ago. A river nightmare but sanded and smoothed it out. Used aftermarket decals which went down well. I kept photos of the model, since it turned out very nice. Good to see this video. Brings back good memories

It’s a really amazing aeroplane and that last scene with ramp cars and people is museum quality. Loved every second of this build especially the moulding and rebuilding to allow the doors to be opened, brilliant job.

I have one of these, and I thought it would be a quick build.!! What an amazing job, beautiful. An old story ,one of these beauties was on fina😂l approach into a North American airport. The tower controller asked, "Say what kind of plane is that?" The pilot, a Brit said proudly, "This is a Bristol Freighter." After a short pause, the controller responded, "Did you build it yourself? "😂

Excellent. I made one as boy. Got an unmade one (boxed) in my spare room. Brought back happy memories. I remember playing in G-ANVR in 1965 when it went to the dump at Southend airport awaiting scrapping. Me and my mates climbed out of the escape hatch on the roof and we used to sit on the wing watching the take offs and landings of the Carvairs and Viscounts. G-ANWK and others were lined up. Needless to say we helped ourselves to many of the old dials etc for souvenirs. "DO NOT JAR - HANDLE LIKE EGGS". Still got a few bits. Thanks, cheered me up.😊

That must have been a great visit. The aircraft was leased by Air Charter in Mar 1955 for operations on the airline’s new cross-Channel Southend-Calais car ferry service - ground-breaking at the time!

Watching this build took me straight back to around 1959-1960 when I was a young teenage Airfix fan. Back then their kits ranged from two shillings (10p in new money) to 17 shillings and six pence (87.5p in new money). I think the Bristol Freighter was around 15 shillings (75p in new money). Yes they were a bit on the crude side but in the range of most schoolboys pocket money. Over the years they have come a long way and I'm astounded at the detail in todays kits. Of course the current prices reflect this. As a final note I loved watching your build of what wasn't considered a popular model.

I had this kit three times in my life (I'm 59), in the 1970s and 1980s. The plastic was nice and thick on this kit, when it was made at this time. Another nice thick plastic kit, made at the same time, was the Short Sunderland lll. I haven't bought Airfix kits for over thirty years, the plastic is too thin, almost translucent.

I have no memory of the flight only the journey to Hurn, waiting at Hurn, being called for the flight, and landing at Cherbourg and going through customs. I do remember wanting to build a model of one when Airfix or another company made a model of one.

Fantastic build Greg! Show's in no uncertain terms what can be done with these old classics. This is my kind of modelling too. I love nothing more than taking old kits, often subjects that are not available elsewhere, and correcting and adding all the missing details. I could build more state of the art models, but stuff like this is what I enjoy the most. Makes me wish Airfix had released a Carvair to go along with the Superfreighter.

Great build. I made one in the mid sixties. Then I built another about 1995 or 1996 when it was re-released. I painted it mainly using Halfords spray cans. I did the white cockpit framing using thin strips of white electrical insulating tape . The whole model including the canopy was then brushed with Johnson's Kleer. I still have the model in mint condition.
