Hello guys, sorry about that, it's been a few years since I made this tutorial and recently I was informed that people had trouble accessing google drive! I restored the link and I hope it's working but in case it's not: the most important two files are the reference images which you can download here: imgur.com/a/rn9GV3n Also feel free to join us on the ChamferZone Discord in case of any problems or questions :) discord.gg/chamferzone

+DDman465 Thank you! That is awesome to read! Yes that was really something I wanted to avoid like the plague. I made the grenade tutorial here in the middle of creating the AKM tutorial which I released last week. The reason for that was that I wanted to have a free tutorial out before I release the "big" one that I charge for. So long story short.. it was a learning process to not say uhhs and umms and having already completed several chapters of the AKM at that point I was able to record that here without saying it due to practice. However.. going back then to the first recordings of the AKM tutorial I noticed that I have these uhhhs in there all over the place which I couldn't stand at all. So I decided to delete all speech audio on the modeling chapters and talk all over it again. Certainly was worth it. There may still be a few uhhs in the unwrapping chapter of the AKM but it was not so bad that it would have been worth to re-record the whole audio on it :) Next tutorial is hopefully completly free of it haha. Thanks DDman !
@stompeee
@stompeee 8 жыл бұрын
+Chamfer Zone Oh there's nothing wrong with a few uhhs and umms. Sometimes it's just ridiculous, however. What could be explained in the first 5 minutes of your video takes an hour for most of the other users/videos on youtube. Your vocal volume is great too. I was very surprised and relieved at the quality you provide, and that makes me put confidence in your teaching ability. So thank YOU for setting this up for us. Already looking at your premium tutorials.

Bit of help please, 59:10 to 59:20 - just so I understand this, you can break segments away from the object when unwrapping without having to re-stitch it? Getting confused on why you stitch some parts back, but not this part?

@Paddy 4444 & OverNight Gaming: I can't leave replies directly to your comments, you have to switch that back on in your google + settings or else nobody can comment to you on KZfaq. @Paddy: The AKM tutorial is almost done and in its final polishing phase. It will be up for sale on various marketplaces and it will come with an optional 3dsmax introduction in which we go over all shortcuts, scripts and settings that we will need to turn 3dsmax into a powerful workhorse. It's a huge tutorial and I am sure in the end it doesn't matter whether you create an AK or a handgun if you are a beginner. Only the size is different :) But who knows.. I might just make another handgun tutorial after the AK. We'll see ! @OvernighGaming: Check my facebook page for Ian who created the grenade in Maya with an amazing result! facebook.com/ChamferZone Maybe you can message him directly on there.

Ok hey guys, for those of you that follow these tutorials with Maya. I did not manage to bake out normal map and had problems as you know you can't name multiple objects with the same name. As I studied modeling for film I was not familiar with normal mapping. It's easy to work around this small problem but big headache if you don't know how to solve it. All you need to do is to combine all the element into 1 per parts and it works like a charm. So for instance you take the body of the grenade and the letters and combine them. This way it's only 1 object and can have the same name as the low poly version. Hope this helps.

Great lesson even now btw, thank you! I am trying to follow it using Blender and it went pretty fine till the Hi Poly phase. At this point i realised the difference between the Turbosmooth and Subdivisin modifiers. Seems that Turbosmooth does not need the good topology to work properly, and for the Blender Subdiv modifier i had to step back and made new Fuse head with the topology good enough for the loopcuts.

Impressive workflow. As a furniture designer doing everything from soft upholstery to hardwood dining tables is 3ds Max a good program to invest in and learn? I notice some of the best images in my field are a combo of 3ds max, Marvelous designer and maybe even Zbrush. It feels overwhelming. Where should I focus my energy first? Hi, When I array the grenade pineapple parts, there is a huge gap between the new pineapple parts and the top detached circle. I've tried changing my selections and messing with the axis views being set to 'world' and such likes, but still can't seem to get it solved. There's too big of a gap to just weld it down too. Any ideas? Thanks Saul

+Saulman It seems the axis for my lower circle isn't directly centred, probably what's causing the problem. Any ideas?
@Saulman515
@Saulman515 8 жыл бұрын
+Saulman AHHHHHHH, It worked. Apparantly if you move the cylinder at all after placing it, that will mess up your array later down the line, had no idea that would happen. But I fixed it by rebuilding the cylinder and not moving it once it was in position. I assumed moving the whole thing to meet the guidelines would be a good decision, but apparently not haha.

hi, there are still some distortions on grenade body 1:08:54 - look at between extruded body faces, i would like to know, can it cause serious problems in texturing?
@ChamferZone
@ChamferZone 7 жыл бұрын
Hello Orin, really sorry about the late reply. Slight distortions are always there when you unwrap. It's nearly impossible to not have it. As long as it won't result in a super ugly noticeable thing later on the texture it's no problem. Often you have to unwrap the UV shells as one big piece and that is only working if you take some minor stretching into account. It certainly won't mess up your texture later on. That is why it's good to apply a checker pattern texture while we unwrap because it sort of gives you a preview of how the stretching looks like.

will it be acceptable, if there is distortion in checker as u did the cyliinderical mapping on the apple shape but it's still showing the distortion in the checker, as i followed the same process, isn't this will create the problem in texturing I mean it will lead to distortion in the texture

Very nice tutorial, very comprehensive. Although it would be nice if you could point out what the shortcut key is for certain command so that new user (such as myself) can understand a lot better. Thank you for the tutorial, looking forward for the next tutorial series.

Hi Efendi! Thank you very much for your feedback. Yes my next free tutorial is almost out and I got that feedback a lot about the grenade tutorial. Next one I try to be more clear about which actions I use. Cheers, Tim :)

Great as usual! Thank you! However, I have one question. In high poly models you have a lot of N-gons, which is considered to be no good. What's the right way to do with it?
@ChamferZone
@ChamferZone 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Baxter, thanks for your comment! I think though that you confuse low poly with high poly. There is not a single ngon in the highpoly due to turbosmooth which quadifies everything. As for the lowpoly, yes there are ngons in there. Have a look at this topic and video I made regarding that :) forum.chamferzone.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9

I think a faster alternative to the flow connect tool is the swift loop tool. While in the tool, holding down shift and hovering over the edge ring where you want the loop gives the same effect. At least from what I've noticed it's essentially the same but slightly faster.

The edges of my array always overlap when following the tutorial. I have little idea why, beyond some assumptions. If I use an 8 sided 45 degree array on the cylinder prior to modeling it lines up perfectly.

Wow this is pretty hard lol I have no idea how to even get past 1:35 all because I do not know how to make it semi transparent and the back of the plane is always black, I'm using 2018 is it still possible for this tutorial to help me?
@TotsWorldGaming

lol i'm using 2018 and was having a hard time too. Idk about the plane being black but to make it transparent is Alt + X key. That's how I got mines transparent. I'm really late responding to your comment though so you probably already got it by now.

@zaparine 6 жыл бұрын
About the back of the plane is always black because you have only 1 default light and don't set lights to follow camera angles. You have to set to 2 default lights and tick the check box "lights follow camera angle" in the per-view preference.

Great stuff! I found that using a program like RizomUV helps a ton when laying out UV maps. It's faster, uses AI to best calculate the use of UV space, and you can even make adjustments based on many things such as groups, islands, angle, and much more. To me, it is a must have in all my workflows. :)

Sehr gutes und ausführliches Tutorial! Vielen Dank!

@ChamferZone
@ChamferZone 8 жыл бұрын
