It is, we live in a patriarchal society that abuses exploits and undervalues women...even conservative women that try to (and succeed in) gain wealth and status by conforming to the expectations and roles the culture prescribes. Some of those conservative women may be complicit but they are still victims and they deserve to helped... like Gretchen.
