Күн бұрын

Hi everybody, today we're taking a look at the Catalina Club four-piece kit from Gretsch Drums. These are mahogany drums, which are known for their rich and warm tone. It would make a great jazz kit, but I think these drums are versatile enough to accommodate a wide range of styles, especially if you experiment with different types of drum heads.
I really like the 18" kick drum - this kick even comes with a lift to make sure your beater hits the drum directly in the center. The 18" size creates a really punchy sound. The toms sound really sweet too, with a nice round sound and good definition. Factor in the sensitive snare drum, and there's a lot of potential for expression in this kit.
Thanks for watching - click the link below for more info and hi-res photos!

Best demo I've seen on this kit period! I sold off my DW and vintage Rogers kit last year after the divorce and started getting calls if I could fill in from time to time. I had kept all my hardware and Zildjian cymbals, so I just needed basic shell kit. I found mine in Copper Sparkle and fell in love! When they pulled the snare down, I knew I was in deep shit brother. Now that I've heard that kick drum with the hole in the head and light treatment inside, I'm so happy! I wish they would sell a set of bags for this as an add on. Are you listening Sweetwater???

Best value kits on the markets. Have a far more expensive sound, than their price suggests. They actually sound better than a lot of more expensive drums....especially these mahogany kits...very vintage sound.

@jngarr

It should be noted that even though these are "mahogany", not all mahoganies are created equal. These are made of luan mahogany, also called Philippine mahogany, which is a lower quality compared to other mahoganies used in some drums, some of which are no longer harvested. That said, I still like the sound of my Cat Clubs.

I think sound just depends on if you like the sound or not. It's only 4-piece though so I'm not sure if you only want that many drums for rock, but there's nothing wrong with a 4-piece (I hit a 4-piece too)

instead of using the lift, can't you just get a shorter beater?
@RoeShamBoe
@RoeShamBoe 8 жыл бұрын
if you like, you can lower the beater within the pedal (the beater height/length is adjustable)... the problem is that to get the beater to hit the center of an 18" kick it would end up like 1" long which would mess up the physics cuz the stroke would be so short

@sweetwater
@sweetwater 9 жыл бұрын
Hi +Wagh_Rules ! We use a RODE NT4 stereo mic above the drum kit and a ROYER R-121 ribbon mic down low in front of the kick drum. The reason being is this, I'm trying to make the drums sound as natural as possible and those 2 great mics do the job. Like the listener would hear them if they were in the room. We've experimented with all kind of mics to get the best possible natural sound and the RODE and ROYER are a great combination for that. I hope that helps :)

This is asian mahogany, not african mahogany. I blame Gretsch also for disillusion, they could admit the real origin od wood, like Pearl did in Export series. Only drum made from african mahogany in Gretsch line (to ym knowledge) is Black Swamp snare drum.
