I have a wonderful Gretsch Electromatic G5420T on loan from a friend, I tried to make an informative video but just ended up playing instead! Maybe I'll make more of a proper review/demo in a later video. It's got D'Addario .013 Flatwound strings on it right now for a real old school vibe and is a lot easier to play than I thought it would be! The Bigsby is modded to have the strings go through the bar instead of around it for easier string change, everything else is stock. Lovely guitar, thank you Mikael for letting me take care of it for a while!

Your use of the vibrato bar is the best and most soulful I have ever heard. I just received my first orange 5420 Gretsch, and have watched this video several times to emulate your technique. Thank you. You play very well.

@@sboy1955 That's very nice to hear! I'm not sure actually, it's probably less than 5 years old I would say if that is of any help. I've tried a Gretsch guitars here and there through the last 15 years or so and I have to say, the quality has always been good, not really come across one that was crap so far. Of course, that's not really a guarantee though, just my limited experience!

Great playing. Thank you for sharing. How are you liking the Tone Master Amp? What interface are you recording to? Are you using the Attenuator on the amp. I have that same guitar and am thinking about getting that amp for recording as I live in an apartment. I enjoy listening to play finger style. It's such a warm and relaxing sound.
@TeiscoCurlee
@TeiscoCurlee Жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's a great amp, I really enjoy playing through it but it's not my main amp at the moment, pretty much only because its size, my main amp is a ZT lunchbox amp. I think I recorded with my Focusrite Scarlett audio interface here and the amp may have been muted or heavily attenuated (love that feature).

I’m in the process of shopping for a new guitar. Sold my strat. I’m torn between this and the Epiphone Les Paul 59 standard. I play a lot of punk rock green day, living end, but also into grunge, 90s pop rock like third eye blind, love the 80s stuff ,particularly U2, cure, clash, cult, inxs. I also grew up on zeppelin and like the old blues rock. No idea which way to go….any thoughts?

If you are playing loud with a decent amount of overdrive/distortion, hollow bodies like this gretsch will be much more sensitive to feedback and can be difficult to control. Other than that, try them out if you are able to and see which one you connect more with, good luck!

It has to do with the year of the guitar. Older ones had those inlays and the larger headstock with the electromatic decal. I have the same one as this and it is a 2013. They changed I think around 2015 or 16

Really, really superb tone beats anything either Chet Atkins or the Beatles ever came up with. Wish I knew the entire signal chain. I am not a fan of slow country, but I suspect it beats Steve Wariner and Vince Gill to bits.
