A look at my Gretsch G5655TG in the rather fetching black gold finish. This guitar is a centre block model with Broadtron pickups and a Bigsby. This guitar has its own thing going on tonally but offers a classic Gretsch tone in a more compact package.

Thank you so much. Insightful commentary, and the video was focused on reviewing the guitar and not just showing off your own impressive skills. I went through several reviews. No time stamps, extensive solos, stating the hardware as listed online without further input. You're review stands alone above those.

I have the quilted maple version of that model, and I have been very happy with it. I was shocked how different the broadtrons can vary. My last Gretsch with broadtrons was very dark sounding, but the 5655 version was much brighter and jangly, but not quite as much as the vintage filtertrons.

The fact the volume roll off the low ends is actually something I love about this guitar, it offers so many tone possibilities. I traded an Ibanez AR420 TBG for mine and it’s the best decision I’ve made, I’ve actually made a bargain as it’s currently almost 1500$ canadian new with tax included…and my Ibanez was 1000$ tax included lol I really can’t believe my luck with this Gretsch…

I'm sitting here, wanting to spoil myself.. I have two Metal axes that I got for the band I was in when I was younger.. I have a worn out Strat that isn't playable anymore and will cost more to fix than what it cost new. I love the look of this guitar... I think ill buy one when the next payday rolls in... A "Vibramate Spoiler" really makes restringing a bit easier. I put one on the B60 of my newly acquired Electromatic (Korean) G5422TG. I also changed the tuning keys to Kluson Double Ring tuners, and they do a much better job than the stock ones.

Just got it recently in Jade Grey. Really liking it and mine stays in tune with moderate Bigsby use. Wanted a smaller Gretsch that was easy to manage and this certainly fits the bill. I agree about the time control, shame it doesn't have a bit more range. Nice review!

Hi mate, sorry I'm a guitar newbie so forgive me if I sound stupid. I basically went into the guitar store today to look at the G5622T model with abigsby tremelo. I won't lie, I probably wont use it all that much but I think it looks really cool, and the finish I want ONLY comes with the trem. I spoke to the guy in the guitar store and he was basically destroying bigsbys saying I'll forever be tuning my guitar. Have you found this to be the case in your experience? If I rarely use the trem do you think it will stay in tune? Thanks in advance.
@christianhoopes3134
@christianhoopes3134 Жыл бұрын
@@davidcowell6141 its a shame no one responded to you in this thread here. I'm 4 months late but I hope you got what you wanted. From my research the Bigsby can create tuning issues due to the ridges on the string getting caught on the nut or on the bridge saddles however that is usually on cheaper guitars and can be mended. I have no personal experience, I'm just looking into getting a Gretsch myself. There also is the way of thinking that if you don't like it you can just trade it in and get another one. You're not making any permanent decisions here, just remember to have fun!
@christianhoopes3134
@christianhoopes3134 Жыл бұрын
When I say that the string can get caught I mean that it can in the process of using the tremolo and then it doesn't do back in tune afterwards. Also I've heard about the spring having some problems as well; When you "dive" (pushing the tremolo almost down to the body) it can end up not seating down properly or at least the same way it was before. But, as long as you're going at least a little easy on it I think you'll be fine.

@Dan Legatt - my children got me a Gretsch G2320T Walnut for Christmas’21 and I love it, though I really wanted a GG120 like Neil Young’s & Randy Bachman’s guitars. Couldn’t justify spending huge $$$ for one so I “settled” for an orange-stained G5420T. It is just a wonderful guitar. I don’t think one can go wrong with any of the Gretsch models. Perhaps one day I’ll grab a G5655 - just for the heck of it. Best Regards - Jim

I have the 5622T, almost identical. My tuners sucked so put Grovers on, bought a Biggsfix roller, softer spring, and had to plug and redrill the rear strap pin because it shipped completely stripped. Love it to death now, except for the useless individual volume pots. Really I’d look to replace the whole wiring harness with something that has treble bleeds on everything and has a more linear response.

I bought four Harley Bentons, just to try out different types of guitars, to find out which one I like best. I decided to grow up and get a Gretsch. That exact one is what I bought. I love it, to look at as well as to play. You might have trouble finding a hardshell case for it, and I don't feel a gigbag would be enough protection for such a guitar, more than twice as expensive as any other guitar I've ever had. I found out that a case meant for an Epiphone 339 will fit, and is much more readily available. I find the pickups are not very loud, but I can always boost up the amp - I seldom float at full power on an amp. The pups sure are chimey! Hey why does yours sound so much better than mine?

@Terribleguitarist89

With most semi-hollows you fish the electrics through the F-holes for repair. Sounds fiddly but it's not too difficult once you've done it a few times. An easy way is surgical tubing stuck through the pot holes, out the f holes and stick the tip of the pots into the tubing to pull them into place.
